Re: Funding 2014 - who is in/out?

Jess Ennis gets very little from funding so a poor example trickstat, she is means tested out and her nutrition, S&C, Psychology and Physiology, have come from outside the UKA "system" not to mention all her coaching. She refused to move to Loughborough/ London/ Institute on 3 occasion...

Re: Athletes on the move

I think you miss the point, Nike pay for Mo to train in US as part of their investment in Mo via his commercial, athlete contract. Those athletes that have trained at colleges in the US do so via a scholarship and in return race for the college. Christian Taylor at Loughborough and his training ther...

I think when the Commonwealth Games are in Jan or March then for British athletes the preperation is much the same as an Indoor season. With the Games now in October and the Europeans being quite early in July then it lengthens the season just that bit too much. As for Jessica she seems to get close...

Have to agree with Paul that Denise Lewis did not achieve her potential but 2 Olympic Medals does go a long way towards it. The 2000 Olympic Medal was a close thing with the injuries she had a great test of character coming out all taped up to complete the event. Great Job by Darrel Bunn in the earl...

SteveK26 I think the point I was trying to make in relation to Jessica Ennis and that The Daily Mail's suggested when they felt that the 7000 pts barrier was not far away for Ennis. With Ennis PB's adding up to 6969 if this only produces a score of 6731 then for Ennis to score 7000 pts the PB's wou...

I suppose all I am saying is where likely medalists are going to come from in Zelinka case Commonwealth. By way of giving the chat a d...

Interesting stuff guys Certainly for Ennis the Sizeable improvements will come from the 2nd day events Long Jump - Javelin - 800m A possible returner to the Heptathlon circuit and fits in well with the C, D, E, F is a B the European Indoor Champion Russian Bogdanovic Not sure 7000 pts is really a po...

d pickup can't ever see Ennis doing a Decathlon and I think she has been quoted in the press with regard to that one, but always interesting. I do however remember her coach suggesting that her best event would be the 400mH. I think this was quoted in the Daily Mail a few years back. I certainly wo...

Some great info d pickup and what a great website link you added in there. I suppose your right about Coe or others holding British Records, but if Ennis manages 5 they will all be in Championship recognised events. The real weakness in Ennis Heptathlon though is her Long Jump, the tables highest sc...

About 1.50m better than she opened up with last year and further than her 43.55m throw from the Berlin World Championships. This is an event that will need to progress if she is to even get close to the British Record of Denise Lewis. With 2 British Indoor Records 60mH and Pentathlon and an Equal Ou...

Jessica Ennis to score 7000 points I'm pretty sure She didn't say that and having spoken to her coach he says it's not on his mind this year. Where do the media get this stuff? Not saying she can't but a 300 point improvement in a year at Ennis's level that's a bit much. Maybe by 2011 or better 2012.

When will the IOC take the strong stance needed about drugs, that's what I don't understand. I fully support the BOA's bye-law that anyone tested positive and banned for drugs is not allowed to go to the Olympic Games as part of Team GB. They are even denied accreditation as a coach as well. This sh...

Interested to know what Isabre meant by "What matters most is what the top level competition/training debt of an athlete is" Jessica's Indoor personal bests added together come to 4918 so talk of the World Record is still a bit premature. She will have to improve quite a bit in some events...

jonny1 - no one is decrying the efforts of those who have won awards within the sphere of athletics. It is athletics in ability to match those talents from other sports that have been honoured. Where is the award for Athletic World Champions as there are for Formula 1 and Gymnastics. We have to be p...

New Years Honours List

A well deserved MBE for Jean Pickering and her chartity work supporting young athletes. But not a single award for any of the Berlin Medalists. A serious snub for athletics and those athletes concerned. What are UKA playing at not nominating athletes? or did they and they were declined? Jenson Butto...

CVC couldn't be more wrong. Explain to me how poor conditioing when you were 12 - 15 years old results in injuries when you are 25? In reality we are in a sport where pushing the body to the limit to create a physical change leads to an improvement in performance. Push too hard or increase the load ...

Can't disagree with Lord Coe Some interesting facts, the success at World Youth, European Youth Olympics, European Juniors and European Under 23's - These are really a result of the Talent Programme that was started by Dave Collins, the PD that was got rid of due to a lack of success. A talent progr...

Shaun P was paid hansomly to promote the meeting and it had a very substancial budget. With £75,000 in prize money alone. What would that type of money have done to help revamp the UKWL or BAL Sorry Niels de Vos concept fell a bit flat for me, don't need to re-invent the wheel. 7 attempts in the hig...
