Re: New York Half Marathon

It seems to me that some people are treating Mo's flirtation with the marathon much too seriously. Within a few months he will be back doing what he does best. It was a plan which seemed to make sense to him at the time.

Re: World Indoors Day 3

I'm not sure whether HB's problem is so much succumbing to the pressure of the big occasion as the fact that being such a relatively late starter to the event she perhaps struggles to resolve technical issues that occur during a competition. I think that's pretty much one and the same thing. She's ...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

Kingdom Sports are selling the last of their Commonwealth Games Athletics tickets over the next couple of days.
Tickets to most sessions seem to be available. This is probably the last chance to get them from any official seller.
Other sports available apart from Track Cycling, Swimming and Diving.

Re: BBC coverage plumbs new depths of awfulness?

BBC coverage was as dreadful as ever. Criticising the always hopeless Dickenson misses the point. The whole program is a crime against live sports broadcasting. It's surprising that anyone watches it when Eurosport is doing an adequate job of televising live athletics at the same time as the BBC are...

Re: World Indoors Day 2

Well done Richard kilty! For years it has been said people need championship experience and a chance! This proves that! He could have been in London 2012 and the worlds 2013! Luke Cutts a medal contender is someone I feel needed that championship experience today and like Kilty has been missed of t...

Re: Pistorius trial

Paddy Power were forced to drop their Oscar money back advert by the ASA. A record number of complaints about an advert apparently.

They now seem to have dropped the bet as well.

As bad taste goes they were both right up there, but frankly the publicity they got will only encourage them.

Re: Pistorius trial

I watched a documentary which examined several of those prosecution witness's statements. Questions were raised over their validity, hence my use of the term flawed. Whilst the evidence doesn't have to be specific if it is flawed it becomes easier for the defence team to discredit it. In the uk the...

Re: Pistorius trial

There are several flaws in the prosecutions case, which could cause an acquittal. Only time will tell. That must be a marvellous crystal ball you have there. The trial has only been going for two days. It has heard from three witnesses saying that there was a loud argument, cries for help and four ...

Re: Pistorius trial

Thanks for posting that Steve. Paddy Power enjoy challenging taste with their speciality bets. 7/4 (premeditated murder) looks a value bet judged on the earlier trial by media. Of course this will be the real thing with actual evidence, and the tricky bit is the premeditated. In the old days at Tybu...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

Yes indeed. But I'm guessing Ladyloz may sell the gymnastics (?)... which is not so much our thing, and keep the athletics. I wonder what algorithm they use so that some applicants get 0/4 sessions and some get 6/7. More to the point is what you apply for. For the Commonwealth Games a successful ap...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

Have tickets for five Athletics sessions and some other sports. Experience seems to be that on average people got around 20% of the tickets they applied for on the more popular sports, with huge variations of course. The Olympics appetite for ticket hunting lives on.

Paavo Nurmi Emil Zatopek Al Oerter Ed Moses Seb Coe Carl Lewis Sergey Bubka Michael Johnson Haile Gebrselassie Usain Bolt citius altius fortius over a sustained period, whether there was strong competition or world records to beat. Re: Brussels Diamond League

She stretched every sinew and used every ounce of will power/adrenalin to regain the WC title. Additionally to this she also retained technically strong form and rarely runs fast times out of champs. All this considered and the fact she's now got the coveted NR, I doubt we'll see her go faster. I'd...

Re: Can Perri Win 400m Hurdles Gold?

Perri needs to give up hurdling and switch to the flat. End of. So does Jack Green. I hope thats what happens next year. I don't care that her times over the hurdles are world class. She has shown time and time again that she breaks down when put under pressure. She would likely be making finals ov...

Just my opinion but I thought she had already messed up by hurdle 4, by throwing in a number of short strides at the first three hurdles.

Re: Can Perri Win 400m Hurdles Gold?

She lost the race over the first few hurdles. The last 150 metres were irrelevant.
If she went into the race with a knee injury or it happened in the first 20 metres then you have a point.

Re: Can Perri Win 400m Hurdles Gold?

For me Perri stuttered into the first hurdle and kept doing so at each hurdle until the energy and will gave out as the front three went away.

Choke followed by a phantom injury. Steve Peters over to you?

Re: BBC Athletics Presenters

On a personal level I could do without Colin Jackson. However he is popular among the general public which make up the larger numbers of the viewers of these programmes, not the 50-100 regular athletics chat board users so I would imagine that he will be around to stay. They do a lot of research in...

Re: All star cast at London Anniversary Games

PEOPLE I SAID LANE 1 WAS GOOD FOR 400m!!! And yes I have run a 200m from lane 1, I didn't feel it particularly tight, but then what do I know :P It depends how fast you are going. Such research as I've seen shows Lane 1 is not a problem at 400m pace but at 20.5 200m pace centrifugal force in Lane 1...

Re: All star cast at London Anniversary Games

1) He only ran 200m, a very different race 2) That was lane 1 (IMO a good lane) not lane 9 (clearly the worst lane) Stunned that anyone should think lane 1 is good in a 200m. I have it down as at least a 0.2 sec disadvantage compared with 3,4,5,6. Clearly not as disadvantageous outdoors as indoors ...

Re: Men's Sprints in Moscow

Obviously Dasaolu, Chambers and Gemili are the best 100m athletes we have and so should be picked for the 100m in Moscow. Some might get carried away with the times in Birmingham but consistency, ability over the last couple of years, head to head records, results in Championships, potential all hav...

Re: Is Dai Greene a lucky champion?

Of course luck plays a significant part in many sports. Professional sportsmen typically prefer to minimise or deny the role of luck but good fortune will have helped many a world champion. In 2011 Dai Greene had a season's record of 4-2 against Culson, 3-2 against van Zyl and 2-2 against Bershawn J...

Re: BBC and the Diamond League

You don't have to admire, despise, resent or support the BBC as a whole to have a separate opinion about it's Athletics coverage. For me the BBC's coverage of Sport ranges from the brilliant down to the abysmal. With Athletics it reaches rock bottom. Willfully ignoring live action whilst talking hea...

Re: Is Dwain Chambers finished?

Far too early to know whether or not Dwain Chambers will be running in the low 10.0s as previous seasons. Believing that many in life make mistakes they will never repeat and deserve a second chance; being sure that the authorities and promoters (and media) did not treat Chambers in a fair and even ...

Re: Shanghai DL

It may have been astonishing but it certainly wasn't a great performance, it was an astonishingly incompetent performance. Anybody got a prophecy on how many points KJT can advance her Heptathlon PB this year.
I could do with another laugh after reading the sexism PC brigade's ramblings.

KJT is running approx 300 points ahead of Jess at each age so far, but Jess's progression has been relentless.
