Re: BBC and the Diamond League

You don't have to admire, despise, resent or support the BBC as a whole to have a separate opinion about it's Athletics coverage. For me the BBC's coverage of Sport ranges from the brilliant down to the abysmal. With Athletics it reaches rock bottom. Willfully ignoring live action whilst talking hea...

Re: Is Dwain Chambers finished?

Far too early to know whether or not Dwain Chambers will be running in the low 10.0s as previous seasons. Believing that many in life make mistakes they will never repeat and deserve a second chance; being sure that the authorities and promoters (and media) did not treat Chambers in a fair and even ...

Re: Shanghai DL

It may have been astonishing but it certainly wasn't a great performance, it was an astonishingly incompetent performance. When he eventually decides to actually compete on he 3rd lap he will be unbeatable, until then winning is as much luck as talent. When Kiprop competes on the 3rd lap you'll pro...

Re: I'm a bit down on Steve Cram at the moment

But isn't part of his commentary approach to the DL reflecting the fact that, in reality, the DL meetings "don't matter". They are a nice little earner for the athletes, and they are a good opportunity for us to watch elite athletes competing against each other in non-championship races, ...

Re: KJT

Anybody got a prophecy on how many points KJT can advance her Heptathlon PB this year.
I could do with another laugh after reading the sexism PC brigade's ramblings.

KJT is running approx 300 points ahead of Jess at each age so far, but Jess's progression has been relentless.

Re: I'm a bit down on Steve Cram at the moment

eldanielfire You are spot on. Cram's obsession with pacemakers, splits and times has been a growing trend and his mean spirited criticisms of almost any performance which doesn't come up to his lofty (and unrealistic) expectations is becoming tedious. Perhaps it reflects a general lack of homework,...

Re: Anniversary Games tickets

No. The tickets that they made avaiable sold out. The stadium seats 80,000. For 2 days. They proabably only had a few on sale. There is no way they all sold out in that time period. Turns out Track and Field Tours have good tickets for both days. I have terrible ones for Friday but hopefully will g...

Re: Oscar Pistorius

Defence lawyer Barry Roux said the bail conditions amounted to "house arrest". "Why would this athlete go to a country without extradition and go and hide," he asked the court. Perhaps for the same reason others have done just that. The South African justice system seems to enjoy...

Re: Olympic Stadium Take 3!

A white elephant of epic proportions. A typical Olympic Stadium. Built for a purpose. Difficult to use for other things now that sport requirements are specialised. All Olympic bidders should recognise that fact and accept that along with much of their expenditure the payback is in enjoyment of the...

Re: Olympic Stadium Take 3!

If it ends up like the stadium in Paris then West Ham should be happy, and worth leaving Upton Park for. The point is that it can never end up anything like the stadium in Paris because of the size, the shape, and the way it was built. Unless you knock it down and start again. It was built to be un...

Re: Cardiff to bid for 2026 Commonwealths?

I wonder if hampden pull it off for Glasgow 2014 whether this "raised level in a slightly reduced capacity football ground" idea might not be 'the future' for this sort of project - stadiums built with multi-use in mind , suitable for football, but with 'built in changeability' . On a sma...

Re: Olympic Stadium Take 3!

£2m per year rent for 99 years means that the taxpayer gets their money back. That is not including the rent the council will get from UKA/BA and any other organisation that will be using the facilities (RFU, IAAF, CWG? etc) plus a share of the takings. All this means a profit (albeit) long term fo...

Re: Cardiff to bid for 2026 Commonwealths?

Laps, it may just be possible but the speedway track is less than 400m (320m approx?) and part of the lower tier of seating goes under the middle tier. It would be a great atmosphere, though, especially if the roof was closed. The fixed roof would, possibly, partially cover the track which may or m...

Re: Olympic Stadium Take 3!

Good questions Geoff. The taxpayer is going to have to fork out £135 - 175M for the conversion even if tenders are in line with the estimates. That's a big if! In return there's a miniscule £2M rent a year and a share of matchday revenues and naming rights going in the opposite direction. The stadiu...

Re: Olympic Stadium Take 3!

I think one of Hearn's arguments falls flat on it's face. Orient may actually gain supporters who cannot afford to travel to West Ham's away games! As I have said previously Orient will not be playing at home on the same day/weekend as West Ham. The fixture computer or the Met Police will ensure th...

eldanfire and Exile you seem incapable of distinguishing between (a) a zero tolerance towards the use of drugs at Sky, and (b) employing experienced personnel who because drugs were endemic in the sport will almost certainly have worked for a team that used drugs at some time Over the past few years...

Re: CWG - England Athletics quali standards

Re: CWG - England Athletics quali standards

OK...
