As is the education system, evidently, although silk purses and sows' ears come to mind.

She did not fail to attend any drug tests. She had failed to update her diary on three occasions when testers turned up. There is a difference - evidently too subtle for some.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year

There have been so many outstanding achievements this year that everyone who makes it on to the final shortlist should be a credible potential winner. It would have been a travesty had Murray not won the US Open and was still being considered, but winning such a major title earns him the right to be...

Re: Has Adam Gemili left coach ?!!

I saw the post on another forum stating that someone on yet another forum had reported that Adam had announced that he was leaving his coach, so at the moment it has the status of a third- or fourth-hand rumour. If Adam has made such an announcement, then it was done very quietly as it doesn't seem ...

Not quite sure how Rabah Yousif managed to avoid a DQ. He ran most of the final straight in Nigel Levine's lane. Anyone else see it?

Re: Rate BBC's 2012 athletics coverage

The 10K took place before BBC coverage started and there evidently wasn't a 27-minute gap in proceedings to show it!

Re: Rate BBC's 2012 athletics coverage

Gaby is utterly fab but having her present the last couple of meetings in the season is - a bit like PSD's recent sub-54 form - too little, too late.

Re: Holly Bleasdale leaves her coach !!

It says a lot for Holly's talent and potential that jumping 4.87 indoors and then finishing 6th at the OG still leaves some of us feeling that she hasn't quite lived up to expectations this year.

Re: Brussels DL 7 September (Merritt 12.80 WR)

Merritt's WR is his tenth sub-13 run this year out of 21 starts. He suffered two early-season defeats and two DQs, but will he be in contention for AOY?

Gaby knowledgeable about athletics? You've got to be joking! I would much prefer listening to Colin Jackson talk about athletics than Logan any day.... Wasn't it a nice change to have Gaby Logan presenting? She is professional, competent, personable - and she knows her athletics! She struck me as being genuinely knowledgeable about the sport. I also like the way she controlled the other contributors. I'd like to see much more of her and much less o...

Re: Lausanne Diamond 2012

Interesting to hear CJ introduce some new names in the w400mH: Maleen Walker (any relation to Melaine?) and a Russian lady called Dah Vur...Doe Vor (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Davydova). We were later treated to a most informative disquisition on hurdling strategy: some athletes like to get...

Re: Chaunte Lowe Retired? :(

I've always liked Chaunté. After she did that 6.90m long jump a couple of years ago I harboured fantasies about her doing a (unique?) double at the Olympics - mad, I know, but wouldn't that have been something?

Re: Rate BBC's 2012 athletics coverage

I wasn't disappointed by the coverage as I had very low expectations. I was relieved that there were different channels for all the events and didn't find it too onerous to flick between them. The dedicated channels did yield the occasional nugget, such as the wHJ qualification when Friedrich tried ...

Re: ohuruogu

Her record can't be argued with, yet I'm sure I can't be the only one who wishes she would run fast outside major finals. She is an utter enigma to me - whether she wins or loses. If I live to be 37 I'll never be able to work her out.

Re: career changing decisions post Olympics

Nicola Sanders - 800m or more likely in my view, aim for 2014 400 hurdles... I'd think a move to hurdles is very unlikely: didn't she change to flat running because of injury (hamstring/achilles?) aggravated by hurdling? As far as Louise is concerned, her throws improved a bit this year but her jum...
