Re: progress?

Another view might be that even without lottery funding, witness the years before it came about, top ten all-time performances would be expected to improve? If the rest of the world stood still perhaps but the depth of competition has changed. Look at how other Western European countries medal coun...

Re: British Athletics European Trials and UK Champs 9-10th F

I was really hoping Okoro would have put in a good performance at these champs after a change in her setup and training but not only did she use the same crazy tactics in a not particularly strong field but she also hit a bit of a low pulling up in the last few yards as everyone ran past her. She s...

Re: mens 400 2013

Unfortunately the results from last season are somewhat inflated by the Geneva effect. 5 out of the top 10 with their best performances there and never repeated. If we take out results from that day then its not quite as positive. Agree though that the world scene is on a low and mid 44s (set outsid...

Re: Multi Events Sprints and Hurdles

Why is the false start rule a benefit for multi eventers - it is possible to be in a race with more false starts than a normal individual race and become unsettled and at a disadvantage so should they have a different sign next to their performance to say they should be rewarded for that? Knowing t...

Re: Greg Rutherford

The 2012 Olympic Champ was Greg Rutherford - the world leader was the same man. He beat everyone in the world to the title. Therefore he is the best in the world. Olympic medals aren't handed out for beating people of 20 years ago or 16 years ago or 12.. The standard wasn't as good as before but I w...

Re: Athletes on the move

With regard to paying coaches - this already happens. I would happily pay a coach that I think is worth paying for - I've been fortunate that the coach I know is willing to do it for free. Then it comes down to how good the coach is from the athletes perspective, not an outsider or another coach. Th...

Re: Throws

I don't doubt that they will both be near or at the top in their careers but I think next year is too soon. I think Lawrence is closer than Hitchon as well and think he could be in the shout for medals next year - think Hitchon would need a while longer.

Re: London Diamond League 2012

Ato Boldon suggested on Twitter that they need to leave the weightroom behind for now..there certainly doesn't appear to be much benefit coming from that condition - as I said before lets hope Gemili doesn't go down that path. On a similar note though HAA seems to have reduced in size this year?

Re: London Diamond League 2012

Why are our sprinters all so big? Williamson and MLF looked so stocky and even look like they are carrying excess weight (like me!) - Gemili is not in their shape at all and lets hope it stays that way!!

Re: What's Happened to our Sprinters?

Just watched an interview on YouTube with Montell Douglass and she seemed to be trying to explain that because the trials were 3 weeks earlier than normal it made it harder for them all to get a qualifying time. For someone who is supposedly our British record holder (we all know how laughable that ...

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

Well, I have to admit that I need to prepare to eat my own words. Childs did indeed back her performance up, as did Clarke although I wouldn't have questioned his time as he and Pozzi are working their way into world class just at the right time. I have to say that I am still somewhat in disbelief a...

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

How are the Geneva times not genuine. It isn't at altitude, there is no history of one off unbeatable quick times being produced. The races were over 400m so wind gauge is irrelevant. That just leaves timekeeping, is that genuinely what people are saying has happened, that the Swiss have deliberate...

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

Big Gut - seems like you have lots of "arguments" going on so won't bother you any more. I'd recommend you watch Childs' race, then her interview and you will see I am only agreeing with her - sheer surprise that she could run that time in the way that she executed a race. Then you can als...

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

I am not attacking anyone here - I'm just saying I don't believe the times are right and that people are capable of those times in the way that they ran them. I think Childs is more than capable of that time but not while she is stumbling down the home straight chopping her stride - if you watch the...

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

If Childs hasn't pb'ed before because of her last 2 hurdles I'd hate to see what they were like before - her final 100 of this race had so many problems - she couldn't believe it herself

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

Times wouldn't be made up but that doesn't necessarily mean they are right. It's possible for equipment to be wrong. Luke Lennon-Ford ran a realistic time today which was over a second slower - I bet that happens for all of the others too.

Re: Geneva meeting, 2 June

Surely they won't accept the times from Geneva for qualifying purposes? There were athletes out there running way quicker than they are capable of - Childs couldn't believe her time herself and when you watch her race you can see why - she was messy and the last 2 hurdles she chopped and changed sig...

Re: Manchester Great City Games

Why do so many sites decide to suggest that the blunder "cost her a hurdles PB" - she would never have run a PB if there was another hurdle there. I also find it hard to believe that none of the athletes or experts realised there was a huge run into the line off the last (9th) hurdle. Was ...

Re: uphill throwing at birmingham

Training on flat track in Birmingham is one thing - throwing uphill in the biggest domestic comp of the year is 100 miles away. Throwers seem to understand, some spectators are sympathetic, some apathetic, some deliberately pathetic. It's not hard to resolve, how can we help to make it happen?

Re: uphill throwing at birmingham

Nobody intends to not throw a qualifier until the trials but it is certainly the competition most throwers will aim to peak for and therefore the place where they are most likely to hit the qualifiers. Lee Doran threw 78m at the worst place to throw javelin last year - if he did that throw at Bedfor...
