Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

She should have a bronze medal from the 2004 Olympics in the 4x400m relay, but the Americans, despite running with a convicted rugs cheat in the rounds, get to keep their medal. Thanks Lee for all your numerous appearances in a GB vest and best of luck for the future ! She leaves Scotland behind in ...

Re: Outdoor season 2014

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/other-sport/athletics/brett-morse-personal-battle-colitis-6762162 Interesting read about Brett Morse. Sounds like Colitis can be very difficult to live with. It appears he is in a good place this year, best of luck to him, great chance to get some major medals this...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

Article on the BBC about Kirani James targeting the Commonwealth games.

The mens 400m could be really hot come the summer. James, the Bahamian men, Trinidad, Australia and GB nations all have strong 400m runners. One event where it should be a higher standard than the Europeans.

Re: World indoor relay splits

Christine O with the slowest final leg split...... I thought she said she was taking a quiet year this year so I didn't expect to see her go to the World Indoors, and after her relay leg splits I kind of think she could have let another athlete have the experience of running at the Champs. 52.5 isn'...

Re: SHOULD KJT GIVE UP MULTIEVENTS FOR THE JUMPS

I'd say Jessica Ennis-Hill is a great role model for women precicesly because she is strong in every sense of the word. She is attractive, of course, but she's strong, tough, decisive, determined: all virtues that are not traditionally associated with being 'feminine'. Insisting that despite their ...

Re: World Indoors Day 3

Holly Bleasdale, age 23. European Indoor 1st. World Indoor 3rd, World Junior 3rd and European U23 1st as well as senior champion on 6 occasions. The fact she won her European Indoor title in a jump off, and forcing Rogowska to do it is a demonstration of her mental strength not a fragility. I have n...

Re: World Indoors Day 3

I thought Kilty came across really well in his BBC interview. His newspaper quotes didn't seem to match the personality and the way he articulated himself on that occasion. I think he is over hyping how much he was hard done by by the selectors, but naturally we can all understand his frustration. I...

Re: how many British athletes will achieve medals at the WI.

I don't think GB have fallen backwards since 2012, if anything they have progressed. There is a lot of talent in GB athletics at the moment and we are seeing many juniors like Gemili, KJT, Muir transition really well into senior level. Would we really rather be like France only able to send 7 athlet...

Re: Sopot Team

Holly Bleasdale because she has won medals at this level before and seems in a good place right now. The womens 800m really anything could happen, but Laura Muir has shown her good form over the winter is no fluke, so she has the confidence to go and run for the title. I really think Asha Philip sta...

Re: World Indoors Day 1

Laura Muir does have Hinkricksdottir with her in that first heat, and from what we have seen of her in the past couple of years, she loves to hit the front and set a fast pace. I think we may see quite a few fastest qualifiers coming from the first heat.

He's had a free car to drive around in, had the opportunity to go on numerous TV shows such as Xtra Factor, appeared in magazines (currently stripping off in Attitude) and posted on Twitter about other freebies such as coffee machines being sent to him. Nike didn't drop him, he didn't think their o...

Re: Moscow Absentees

Oh yeah actually i didn't read it thoroughly enough, it does say a dietary supplement but it doesn't specify any further. Not really too sure how to react to these cases, until we see the punishments handed out to the likes of Powell and Simpson and just what it was they tested positive for...

Re: Moscow Absentees

Alice Decaux, best of 12.70 and finished 2nd in the French championships has tested positive for 'un produit léger' according to L'Equipe. Possibly a stimulant ??
She will not be in Moscow anyway...

Re: The Lighter side of the World Championships

People usually discover what a nutjob he is eventually. He idolises British and American athletes generally. He may scour results from websites, but that is all, the info is already out there at official sites. God help any British athletes that he may come across now that he is in the UK !!

Re: IAAF World Champs 2013 (Day 1)

I think it could take just one good race to fill her with confidence and we will see a different athlete on the track. She underperformed in the heats last year at the Olympics, so i just hope she really gets stuck in to it.

Re: Moscow Absentees

So the rumours seem to be that Zaripova is out.

800m man Borzakovskiy also pulled out a few days ago.

Any more last minute absentees that anyone has heard of before the main show gets under way ? (and people start to regret their prediction competition selections...)

Re: IAAF World Champs 2013 (Day 1)

McColgan has the flat pace to beat a lot of those with superior times to her this season, i just hope that she has worked a bit on the barriers over the past couple of weeks. Qualifying out of that round is not beyond her, however she will have to be a bit more gutsy than i have seen her in a lot of...

Re: new qualification system for Worlds

And in certain events like the discus we could see many athletes going to famously wind helpful events to help get that bigger throw, this could potentially screw up some rankings. Also notoriously fast tracks could see sprinters flock to them ie not just the Brits going to Switzerland. Would any ki...

Re: Middle Distance events in Moscow

Confident that the Americans will medal in both the mens and womens 800m, chances not as clear in the 1500m but still fairly possible. I am interested to see if Aregawi can run away from everyone else in a championship setting as she has done on the circuit, i am inclined to say no, or certainly not...

Re: Neil Black: Guardian article on Moscow

I had a shot at points predicting and I got 55 points for the Brits; I thought I was quite optimistic, even gave our short relay runners a few points, so they must get the stick round. Interesting that 4 out of the best 5 points totals were before UKA got to work and we had Lottery funded athletes....

Re: Neil Black: Guardian article on Moscow

I for one agree with no medal target being set, i just don't really see the point of them. As others have said, medals are not the only way of seeing the strengths and weaknesses of a team. British athletics has still named a team that apart from the US and Russia has a more widspread of athletes in...

Re: Neil Black: Guardian article on Moscow

Regarding Tiffany Porter. She goes into Moscow joint 6th fastest of the athletes that will attend Moscow. The top 3 in the US trials have thus far not run quicker since the trials. Note i make no claim as to how quick they will run in Moscow, i don't know. Tiff has previously finished 4th in a World...

Re: Neil Black: Guardian article on Moscow

Iain is right to remind us all of the Euro Indoors. Not an outdoor 100m i know. However he still rose to the occasion and ran a PB. A small piece of evidence to go in his favour. The likes of Tasha Danvers medalling in 08, Andy Turner, Hannah England and Will Sharman's 4th place in 09 are all exampl...
