I have just re-read my letter and it says "Any future membership" if you belong to a club ask your secretary to give you a copy. I have just had a load photocopied and left at the track for club members.

Michael, I do not know if your club had a copy of the same letter that I recieved but mine just says the membership would be entirely voluntary. You ask what is a competing athlete? You are winding us up are you not, surely your not that stupid. I have just had a club member ring me up this morning ...

Am I missing something here. The letter that I have received states that for next year the cost of becoming an affilitated competing athlete (which I understand will mean some one who competes in athletic events) is £3:00 per athlete plus a one off payment by the clubs of £50. The next year the athl...

Maybe field officials will be listened to when athletes are told to adhere to the rules in future. Last night I had to stop a senior thrower standing in the sector as his friend threw at him.

ordinary runner you bring up a number of points which need to be commented on. A large number of running clubs do make use of licenced coaches and often will make an appearance at the tracks to take part with other clubs in training sesions. I asked a lady why her runing club became affilliated, sim...

I have always been an advocate for a registeration scheme, forget membership scheme. Why? It allows youngsters to belong, ask a young footballer or rugby player to show his pass and they nearly always have it on them. It provides a means of checking that the right person is competing. It gives you s...

I have seen some great changes in the regions and I feel that if allowed to the new set up can work. I am concerned about some of the the "new initiatives" and some of the claptrap that comes out of a wide range of mouths from UKA, AAA regions, clubs and individuals. I get fed up with hearing about ...

From what I have been told the chiltern league fixture at Wing is a real killer. It is over a hilly farm area, which prior to the events holds a wide range of livestock and is open to wind and rain. I have been told of occassions that when going through the first fields gate shoes have been lost due...

Hi Jennifer

They could do but by the time they got the listed the season would be over.

Which reminds me I must look at the power of 10 to see if any of my athletes have got themselves listed

By the way you never did say which Jennifer Eccles you were.

I agree with you 100% the schools have more important things to do, like rugby and football training. If I had my way every student would have to do a 5km run once a day, regardless of the weather. It builds backbone and would make the students fitter and more alert with would then make more aware o...

Jennifer you should never ask a man how much he earns its like asking a woman how old she is, as a matter of fact -No- forget I asked. Whilst I agree that the challenge is a good thing we must be looking to get "new faces" involved as well and I would much prefer a more clearly defined set of challe...

Blimey, even the skivers do not get a chance to operate now this new pc brigade make the teachers do some work and actually run. My PE teacher used towatch us out of the main gates and then walk to the pub at the bottom of the road and when the first lot went past he went back to school. 18 year old...

When I did school cross country the non runners disappeared and reappear suitable fed and watered at the end of the course. Making them do something constructive is a lot better. Any sport that makes some one active is a benefit, unfortunatley once out of sight of the teacher running becomes, walkin...

I agree with the registration of athletes and this would help solve the problem. I actually work with data bases on a regular basis and once you get the information you can soon translate it into the right format, I normally do not have a problem. Now we come to the crunch. The power of ten data bas...

When I was at school cross country running was effective for some and not effective for others, bullying maybe an emotive word, but we have to ask ourselves did it benefit everyone almost certainly not. would it have benefited those that enjoyed to go on the runs and those that did not just running ...

I have supplied all the information required and wrote to UKA about it. But still no response. It still does not get away from the fact that the system is flawed and is only geared to achieve mediocraty. It was launch in only a couple of papers, did not get TV airing and the majority of the coaches ...

Done three weeks ago, still no response. I have athletes in some of the top places in the ranking but they are not even listed. But the age old get better and beat everyone in your region would be the better option and only guarantee. "The Power of Ten" is already at work making athletes competitive... I always remember my first term at senior school and I was introduced into cross country running. I found it was good fun and in general loved it. They could have always looked at those youngsters that achieved the standard and did not get picked. By placing standards on ot the events is absolutely ridiculous. This is supposed to be an Olympics. You get all standards at Olympics. If you base the teams on the schools championships it could well leave out athletes who could attain better times/distances than theschools championships, why? becau...

This power of 10 is now becoming a farce. I have just spent the evening checking all my club athletes records against the power of 10. Most are not even listed and when they have been listed they are at least 4 months out of date. In many cases they should be listed in the top 10 for the region. I n...
