Re: 2013 Outdoors medals and top 8s

Jeremy Lets get one thing sorted. I don't think, (and never have), that you are anything but pleased whenever a Brit wins a global. I have never accused you of rejoicing in British defeats. Flag-waver? Me? Definitely!! But I draw the line at being told to grow up... :D (I'm not too far off your ripe...

Re: 2013 Outdoors medals and top 8s

Jeremy Where do you get the ''hero worship'' bit from? Call my post silly if you like, but don't exaggerate things by putting your spin on it. What I said was that Mo should be rightfully acknowledged as the best distance man around at present; and he has three golds and a silver to back that up. Wh...

Re: 2013 Outdoors medals and top 8s

Mo I disagree with all those predicting defeats for Mo. He is a better athlete than Rupp, or so history tells us thus far. He is the best track distance athlete on the planet, or so his record shows. He has the best kick finish of everyone , and can do it off a fast pace. Or am I missing something? ...

Re: I'm a bit down on Steve Cram at the moment

According to this article it was Coleman who gave that commentary on White Lightening: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2002/oct/06/sixnations2008.features. On the otherhand, Wikipedia say it's a myth and it was Pickering. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Coleman#Folklore But as it doesn't cite a ...

Re: Eriksson rumuored to quit?

There is no obsession with UKA going to foreign coaches, The only obsession is wanting WORLD CLASSS coaches working with their best athletes, surely this is what the country's top athletes need. How many British World Class coaches are there, probably count on one hand!! Everyone moans but the fact...

Re: Eriksson rumuored to quit?

Why oh why cannot British Athletics employ British coaches/managers ? What is this obsession with foreigners? (in other sports as well). I'm absolutely certain there must be highly qualified British personnel (with the accompanying loyalty to Britain) who would do very well if given a chance. Nevert...

No need to shoot you Kermit, nobody really cares who said it. :)
But I still say Coleman was a great commentator on athletics, warts and all.

Lets throw it open.
Was the Juantorena remark (about opening his legs) made by Coleman or Pickering?

Re: I'm a bit down on Steve Cram at the moment

When describing a slow-mo of one of Alberto Jauntareno's gold medal winning performances Coleman said. And Jauntareno just opened his legs and showed his class! I think it was actually Pickering who said that. Coleman's passion and love of track and field made him a superb commentator. The fact tha...

Re: Eriksson rumuored to quit?

Not 'noise' then.
(what do I know).

If he does go, it would lead me to think that all is not great in the halls of GB Athletics. It would be very odd to resign before the season is fully underway. He must have taken all the family issues on board when he accepted the job.

Re: KJT

Anybody got a prophecy on how many points KJT can advance her Heptathlon PB this year. I could do with another laugh after reading the sexism PC brigade's ramblings. KJT is running approx 300 points ahead of Jess at each age so far, but Jess's progression has been relentless. I'm happy to have a st...

Re: Outdoor Results 2013

I see that Laura Weightman has run 8 mins 43 secs somewhere being her supposed first effort under 9 mins. Crammy will be pleased! If that is confirmed, its a massive PB. Moves her from 65th to 11th on our all-time lists. Not bad for a May performance! There are some very good names above her on the...

Re: KJT

Its unlikely that most of the articles about Klishina concentrate on her (undoubted) beauty. Most will focus on what she does. Nothing wrong with the odd one talking about her looks as well as her talent. Maria Sharapova lives with such comments every time she walks on court. I doubt it bothers her ...

Re: Doha DL

Glad to note the usual NO comments on what was a fine first DL meet. God forbid the great British fans some of whom write copiously on another site can only mention Green, CO and f**k all else on this thread, with the feeble exuse that this is a British site. No reference of course to some fantasti...

Re: Doha DL

Rhetoric question:
How long should it take a 400 hurdler to perfect his/her technique, or stride pattern?
(I do realise that some change their stride patterns as they get better).

Re: Doha DL

Interestingly, there has often been plenty of discussion about athletes changing events. Athletes who should move up a distance , or down a distance, or switch to hurdling , or try their hand at 'chasing etc etc. So why is Green a taboo subject for such conjecture? Bearing in mind that conjecture is...

Mump
I never said Green should change events.
The argument sort of took me along a path that SUGGESTED he might have more success over the flat. You for one have banged on about how good he is in relays for ages.
Isn't this forum a good place to mull over such stuff?

Re: Doha DL

.........and lets face it, he only has one seriously good 400 hurdles time against his name so far. The Diamond League London meet last year. 48-60. He hasn't yet backed that up with much, and you need to be consistent in the low 48's to be sure of making any global final. So I'm not sure where the ...

Justrunfast Fair points. But I'm really just suggesting that in the future he might be better without barriers. He doesn't seem very accomplished getting from one side of them to the other. Which is pretty important if he is ever going to make a world final. I'm sure he will prove me wrong. :) How ...

Re: Doha DL

Eldanielfire I agree completely. I don't buy the 'no smoke without fire' argument regarding Christine. I may be wrong, but soon after they brought in the ''three strikes and you're out'' rules , weren't there countless athletes on two strikes (and on the verge of disaster)? If this is true then eith...

Re: SO how do we evaluate the Charles Van Commenee era?

A wry smile as I read these posts ; under earlier names I made a number of posts about the absurd number of injured British athletes, as far back as four/five years ago and all I ever heard from certain posters who should have known better was that my points were not valid cos all countries especia...

Re: SO how do we evaluate the Charles Van Commenee era?

It remains in my mind how Goldie Sayers was bubbling after her great performance at the Palace prior to the Olympics. When I subsequently read that she had incurred a serious injury I wondered why she had been so ''chirpy'' afterwards in the interview. Was it because her injury had been down-played ...

Re: Doha DL

Alfie Agree with most of your above observations. But I am fairly certain that CO has Montsho's measure when it comes to Championship finals. I'd love to see Christine find another quarter of a second improvement to her PB. Then I believe she could beat Richards-Ross again. However, it may be that C...
