Re: NEW FORUM NOW LIVE

I'm still posting on the old forum, which I have to say is much easier to follow.
Hope the new one improves a bit.

Re: Gotzis

OK If I can get this back on track for a moment..... I think, (but I am losing my thought processes here somewhat), that K J-T said she felt she had a poor first day. I merely reported that comment of hers in response to those who said how well she had done. So it wasn't me who said she had a poor f...

Re: Gotzis

Taffy you are being disingenious.
When the press report heptathlon results they will only quote outright pb's when achieved. If you look at the results they also only show outright pb's.
You know that as well as I do, and thats why I questioned Mumps response.

Thats not the way it works though, is it. Only outright Pb's are usually talked about, even in the context of a heptathlon.

Re: Rome DL

Gemili's time was pretty good, all things considered. Very early days in his season.
54.82 (seasons best) for Child. Low 54's looking likely for Glasgow?

Re: Gotzis

Taffy, I think by inference Katarina meant that her ''poor'' first day included that shot effort, as well as being below par in hurdles and HJ. (although her ''below par'' in hurdles and HJ would be PB's for most others!!). . Never mind PB's for most others they were PB'sa for her :? She didn't hav...

That is too many. Wasn't there a panel of about six selectors in the eighties?

Re: Morgan Lake

Justrunfast Only the ''rags'', who have no in depth athletics knowledge at all, would suggest that Morgan Lake could win Gold in Glasgow. We all know the only way that could happen would be for K J-T and Thiesen -Eaton both to bomb out in an event. Otherwise they will be around 500 pts ahead of her....

Re: England CWG Team

Having patiently read through all these reasoned arguments, it seems logical to me to accept that the present method, despite its flaws, is the best method. Selectors must have a certain amount of discretion to enable them to pick the best team. We , as supporters, have to accept that there will ine...

Re: Morgan Lake

Quite right, Taffy, of course everyone on here wishes her the best of luck.
Her team could just have easily opted for the W Juniors. ( My only beef on this thread was against the view that the C Games was not a sensible option.)

Re: Morgan Lake

Interestingly she is only training three days a week just now. So one would guess there could be a lot more to come, even maybe this year. Not a total surprise that they wanted to do the high jump at the world juniors as well, but were turned down. Final point to note was the comment that Eldon beli...

Re: 2014 Commonwealth Games

Jeremy
The Kenyan's have such strength in depth they could probably select a team full of athletes I've barely heard of, yet still medal in just about every endurance event.

Re: Gotzis

I've watched the highlights video, and one thing clearly stands out......Thieson-Eaton's suicide mission in the 800. What was that all about? Through the bell in 59 point....!!!!! If she had run using her brain she might well have kept close enough to K J-T to win. Surely she should have run on Kat...

Re: England CWG Team

The selection process we use is at least preferable (in my opinion) than the 'finite' 1st three past the post system (that the US adopt). Big Gut Mr. Wells is clearly playing semantics with you. I have never found anything offensive in what you post, although I might not always agree with you. Allan...

Re: Gotzis

Mump Thats an amazingly negative view. "They both lack speed". My take would be that they are both phenomenal athletes. Lake is not slow for a 17 yr old, quite the reverse. They do both struggle with the 800, but that is understandable, and has nothing to do with speed. Thiam might never g...

Re: Gotzis

Speedy You could almost add Lake to the list. By Rio she will likely be at least as good as Thiam is now, maybe better. I personally think the Canadian will struggle to keep up with the likes of K J-T and Thiam. And, at the moment, Jess still remains at the top of the pile. But how will she come out...

Re: Gotzis

Lake v Thiam Thiam worries me from a British perspective. She is the one heptathlete who could spoil our party in Rio. In studying her performances....and she hit SIX (!!) PB's in Gotzis......it strikes me that there are a lot of similarities between her and Morgan Lake. Have a look at their PB'S......

Re: Gotzis

When I started this thread I thought Katarina would win by 100 or so points. It turned out to be a bit closer than that. However she is now undoubtedly the world no. 1, (in the absence of Jess), and of the girls in Gotzis I fear only one in the short term, namely Thiam. She is a huge young talent. I...

Re: Gotzis

.....the young Cuban (Yorgelis) is currently on 3640. Which is some 137 points behind her would-be World Junior rival Morgan Lake. If Lake beats the Cuban easily, would that make it more likely (or less likely) that she would then target the Commonwealths? Her thinking might go one of two ways.. 1) ...
