Special Event focus

Should UK Sport and UKA now look to change how athletes are coached and supported? Some choices: Event focus: Target those events that are weak and bring them up to the standards required to do well at a global level through special event focused squads. Stopping the "They are my athletes and I...

books?

You do not learn how to communicate with athletes from a manual....

words have a habit of being misread and the chinese whispers syndrome ends up with sessions looking nothing like what was intended in some manual.....hey, maybe thats what happened with the team sessions..?

Experience

ahem, I dont expect a great deal to change at UKA except Dave Collins probably going back to rugby on the say so of Sir Clive. He has been having discussions with a well known London based club for a while, that was the talk at rumour control over at Twickers last night. It would be great to see qua...

Pointless

I am quite amazed at the pointless and lack of knowledge shown by some..... To call Rowing a mickey mouse sport is insulting to their fantastic medal winning performance and the amount of training required to compete. The same goes for cycling and swimming which are not by any stretch of the imagina...

agreed

Mike,

Totally agree with your main point and I too hope for GB athletics sake that they now sort things out.

Through adversity good things can occur..the question is, will it happen?

manuals

Its quite easy to read a manual and become an "expert" but not so easy to coach a team to succeed on the world stage. If the athletes were asked what they wanted to happen regarding relays would they agree with what has happened, after all it is the athlete that stands on the track and not...

interesting

I have read with interest the varied opinions on how the GB Athletics team performed at these Olympics. When you see the success of other sports and how the media, government and the general public percieve sport, athletics is seen to be a failure. In a interview with the BBC, Lord Coe said "we...

You reackon...

Some serious problems in British Atheltics highlighted by poor performances and a clear lack of strength in depth.

3 male finalists..none of which were male throwers...come to think of it did anyone see a GB male thrower in these games?

Fangio

Fangio, You are indeed correct, Bruce Longden was made redundant by BAF when it went bankrupt in 1997 but was apparently still owed money in 2001 and probably still is. He was still working in the UK after 1997 running worksops through SEAA and the NCF aka Sports coach UK and was coaching GB juniors...

Coaching?

Why did UK Athletics employ the so called Australian sprint relay coach Michael Khmel in 2006? Was it due to his work with Australia's apparently successful sprint relay teams? Or was it beacuse he was an International Bobsleigher for Australia...I dont remember seeing him do any good at this when I...

Relay Coaching disaster!

not a good moment for UK Atheltics

I watched the womens 4 x 100 relay final and listened to the post disaster interview with wonderment. I thought the relay was a team event and seeking a person to blame is not a good advert for the sport. Yet I heard Douglas admit she was unbalanced then realising she might get blamed shoved all the...
