Idowu lies in second place with one jump to go.

I don't think he'll do it but i hope he proves me wrong.

OH no...

Evora jumps to 17.67 - I think that means Idowu will nead to jump further than anyone has in the world this year...

It's a great competition...

Wariner completely flopped!!! Merritt took the title with ease.

Rooney finished in sixth. A PB would have got him a silver medal.

Current top four in the TJ:

Phillips Idowu 17.62
Leevan Sands 17.59

VERY TIGHT!

She throws another 65m+ but she's in 4th place. Bronze medal is just out of reach at over 66.13m. Goldie has one throw left.

The mens triple jump starts soon...

Goldie throws a new national record of 65.75 to lie in third place after the first round of throws. I think she'll need 67+ to medal.

That was a huge PB - about half a second off her Season's best which she set in the last round and the first time she's run under 54 seconds. Danvers has really stepped up here.

I think we have a (very small) outside chance in the high jump. I think the gold and silver will definitely be won by either holm or silnov but the bronze is pretty open. Any of the three (particularly mason and bernard) could snatch the bronze, but they could all finish last. I'm hoping bernard sna...

Yes, but my sympathy wasn't with the 'fictional wariner' it was more about opposing dodgy tactics like that.

apologies for my earlier sarcasm

I have long believed that, any athlete(s) beating the gun should only remain in the field so long as there are no other false starts. In other words, if athlete A false starts, the whole field would be on a yellow card. If athlete B then false starts, both B and A (the original transgressor) are DQ...

One problem for athletics is that, there are other events going on at the same time and there is more likely to be distracting noise. In swimming, there being only a single event at a time, it is easier for the crowd to remain quiet and not disruptive. very good point. Therefore two false starts sh...

Not a foul, but Rutherford needs to step up. It's reminiscent of Idowu at Athens.

Kwayke has shaved off over a tenth off her PB at these games and you can't really ask more. That is in fact the third fastest time ever by a British woman. Things look good for british women's 100m and I hope Kwakye (25) and Douglas (22), who are still young, can egg each other on and perhaps break ...

Shelly Anne Frasier won the gold medal in the 100m in a fast 10.78 as the Jamaicans claimed a 1-2-3. They must be dead certs for the 4x100m relay as they seemingly only need to get the baton around especially with Veronica Campbell set to come in. Jeanette Kwakye finished in a respectable 6th place ...

Sanders misses out on a fastest losers spot by 0.08, i think.

Ohoruogu was the second fastest qualifier and it looks set to be a ding dong battle between her and Sanya Richards.
