Re: IAAF World Championships 2013 (Day 9)

Tossing The Baton

That rule is in the UKA rules - hence the disqualification at the English Schools which was conducted under UKA rules. There is no equivalent rule under IAAF rules.

Re: Women's long jump - remeasured?

From the coverage that I have seen, there has been no spiker in the pit so it looks as though they have used Video Distance Measuring rather than EDM. Presumably a remeasure would therefore be possible if the cailbration of the pitside discs was checked and if the images of the jumps have been retai...

Really happy that Clovis has come out and run so well again. Would be interested in an official UKA explanation as to why he was not selected for the World Youths.

Are you sure that Liam Ramsay has the standard? He recently set a 7147 PB in Helsinki but the standard is 7200.

Re: multi-events

A very note-worthy performance from the young Frenchman, Kévin Mayer. He is still a junior this year and scored 7,992 with senior implements and over senior hurdles - only 18 points behind his European Champion countryman Romain Barras.

Re: European Indoor Championships

The "take a 4x400m relay team but no individual" scenario is not new. The same happened last year with the the lads at the World Juniors in Moncton. I suppose that you can't make an exception for relay runners who don't qualify in their own right notwithstanding that they're going anyway -...

Re: Paris 2011

I have to agree with Mump Boy. My experiences have been nothing but positive and I am looking forward to travelling to Paris and beyond in 2011 with Claridon. They are a tremendously professional outfit from what I have seen so far. Individuals will decide for themselves which travel operator they w...

European Championships Recognition

It has been good to see the volume and enthusiasm of the press coverage that the team has received in the last week and that some of our medallists have or will appear on various television "magazine" shows now that they are back home. A great reception. However, it pales compared to the r...

France are having a stormer of a champs. If memory serves me right they've been going through the doldrums for a while, particularly on the track. What have they changed, what are they doing that GB should be doing? A stadium full of hundreds of excited French youngsters and the first 5 pages of L'...

Unfortunately, as so often, the damage was done in the first round. Easing up on the line and ceding first place meant that the best seeding he would have for the semi would be 6. That is why the semi with both Djone and Borlee rather than an altogether easier semi where in all probability he woul h...

My full attention was on the track at the time but I thought that Matt fouled at 5.20 so won with 5.10.

Great performance in the wind but not a qualifier though.

Pedro

I'm not sure that Laura Samuel does have the qualifying standard as I understood that there was no wind gauge at L'boro when she jumped her 13.32m.

I may be wrong. Can anyone confirm?

Barcelona

Come Barcelona, I'm confident that we'll bag a hat full of medals. However, the French have two huge talents who at this stage must go in as firm gold medal favourites in Christophe Lemaitre (over 100m at least) and Teddy Tamgho. Hopefully Chambers and Idowu will upset them but to suggest that they ...

Steve Lewis

The selection list for the Team Championship lists Steve Rippon as coach to Kate Dennison but Dan Pfaff as coach to Steve Lewis.

Is that a typo or has there been a coaching change?

Unless we get some good performances at the territorials this weekend, the size of the team is going to be reliant on standards achieved at the trials as a number of notable juniors are still short of the qualification standards. On that basis alone I think that it is right that all juniors should c...

Not fair to pillory UKA on this one, I'm afraid. When decisions about reclassifying firearms are made by the Association of Chief Police Officers, they are not put out to consultation. There is a very good reason for these firearms being reclassified as they can be easily converted to a live gun and...

European 5000m Record and French on Fire

Bob Tahri has set a new European Indoor Record of 13'11''13 in Metz earlier today.

In Aubiere, Christophe LeMaitre ran 6.55 over 60m and 20.83 over 200m and Teddy Tamgho tripled out to 17.25.

Good form in the run up to Doha.
