Re: IAAF World Champs 2013 (Day 1)

Absolute sham that Gemili isn't running the 100 and were still wasting our time with Chambers and HAA, i know they qualified but Gemili is clearly the future and needs to get as much top level experience as possible. HAA and Chambers just making up the numbers just seems utterly pointless. Think th...

Re: Moscow World Champs Qualifying Criteria

In Alex's case he even needs to throw a pb just to 'remain' on a B as the standard has gone up 2m from last year - despite last year's B standard getting him to the Olympic final!

Re: uphill throwing at birmingham

I heard that the infield was to be levelled as part of last season's stadium development but obviously this never happened. In agreement with Oleg, most UK throwers will be looking to peak around the trials. Having limited chance of competing abroad in 'perfect' conditions, the Trials at Birmingham ...

Agree about Koji, (and on the assumption that this story is confirmed and the 2 are stripped of medals) just a massive shame he's won olympic gold and bronze and the experience of both have been lessened - No euphoria following the competition, no medal ceremony on top of the podium with his nationa...

We've had a decent number of throwers qualify for World/European Junior Champs over the years and a few medallists in the not too distant past. Surely that points to a decent talent and coaching.

Ignoring someone who has achieved an A because they probably won't finish highly, yet pick someone of a lesser standard who is younger on an asumption that someday they will be world class......not with you on that one at all. I'm for basing selection on performances not date of birth. If a youngste...

So spaces are left unfilled while people with A standards are left at home while athletes with B standards have been included since the first wave of selections.

Does this benefit athletics in this country in any way?

I think athletes and supporters just want to see consistency in selections.
As long as similar scenarios result in the same decision, there can be little controversy. The problem comes when the reason for selecting one is used as the reason for rejecting another.

And whats this with athletes who have the A standard putting in sub standard performances? Tomlinson (all outdoor season), Lemoncello(again) Johnson( disappointed). Just because they have an A standard they seem to know they can get away with it. If we had the same system as the USA, maybe it would...

In my opinion, it's not the fact that some events are held outside at the schools, but rather that it is the same events held outside year after year. At that age, the english schools was always the most important meeting of the year but as a hammer thrower, the actual competition had less atmospher...
