I would say Thomas is favourite at this moment. Cyclists have a good record in recent years. The exception being Chris Froome whom the voting public don’t seem to regard as British enough.

I think it is much easier to recover from swimming than running. I suspect that is why triathlon finishes with the run.

I can understand Poland running Swiety-Ersetic as I think the time difference between her and their 5th choice athlete was much bigger than that between Nielsen and Onoura. She is also very experienced and knew how to marshal…[Read more]

The encouraging thing about KJT was that she did that put in the second round after a fairly reasonable (by her standards) opener. Over the last three or for seasons she has tended to not improve on her first effort. It was almost as if she was going into the SP, LJ & JT with her main aim to just avoid disaster and having got something ‘on the…[Read more]

Looking at the timetable, the 100H Final was 2 hours 35 minutes after the start of the Heptathlon shot. For me, that is too short a session. If I lived say 100 km away and, for whatever reason, could only make or get tickets for one session I would want more than that.

The thing with the Poles is that pretty much all of their throwers seem to be good championship performers. Other countries with a number of good throwers seem to have some who are good champs performers, some who aren’t and the odd one who is just erratic.

Does anybody have any info as to what Tim Duckworth’s set-up will be now? He has just finished college and presumably will be put on some form of lottery funding. Will he be staying in the States where he has lived all his life and some athletes stay with their college coaches after graduation? Or will he base himself in the UK where he is our…[Read more]

Kaul and Abele have run 4.15, Shkurenyov 4.24 and Zhuk 4.30. Without getting the scoring tables out I think Tim Duckworth is likely to end up a (very decent) fifth.

Yes her pick-up in particular reminded me of SAFP.

Her post-race interview suggested that she felt she ran a little too close to the pace in the first half. Running 800 & 1500 at a Euro Champs will be a different kettle of fish but a great run here would give confidence and daunt your rivals. Hassan’s run will have that effect on her 5000m competitors.

    Good time by Sarah McDonald.

And now 2.02. I think she is the 4th Italian over 2m after Simeoni, Di Martino & Trost. Probably their best event in world terms.

My comment wasn’t about Osagie himself so much as the depth of British times in that race. Of course, Learmonth should get the spot.

3:36.90 by Jake Heyward is excellent. In any normal year, he would be the outstanding junior in Europe.

Will the Ingebrigtsens try for a clean sweep in Berlin B-)

Osagie is 5th Brit with 1:45.25. I suspect you have to go back to the early 90s or earlier to match that.

I agree with what Crammie was suggesting that if you decide to pick Tracey because she was 3rd in the Trials it is disingenuously imposing a US-style selection system without publicising it as such.

As I understand it, the future of Crystal Palace is still uncertain. Although it is on the ‘wrong’ side of London for most of the country, the extension of the London Overground makes it an easier rail journey via King’s Cross, St Pancras, Euston etc.

I think the stadium they use for the Paris Diamond League already existed as it was the one…[Read more]

The attendance suggests that this meeting has got slightly forgotten in the push to promote the new venture of the World Cup.

With all due respect to the Open golf, one of the middle weekends of the Tour de France and a few other events (inc cricket & hockey) this is a less crowded sporting weekend than last week.

Sacoor broke a 45-year-old Belgian National Junior Record yesterday before smashing that again in the final. For younger board members that record was set by Fons Brijdenbach who finished just outside the medals at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics.

Are we sure he’s not a cousin or something. ;-)

Great news for their senior 4×400.
