SPOTY in a post Olympic year always feels like a bit of a come down and Murray has been much missed.

I think Hamiltons achievements stack up fairly well, the car plays a significant part of course but Bottas is in the same car and has managed 6 fewer wins and 8 fewer poles

There is some credence to the argument that maybe AJ isn’t the great…[Read more]

You could describe WvN as a late bloomer having only reached his first world final in 2015 at the age of 23, from that point on you’d expect him to have a 4-5 year period where he would be at his best and able to run PBs when in form. After that 43.6 this year where he looked to be coasting I thought it would just be a matter of time before he…[Read more]

I’ve been slightly taken aback by the allegations but for TGT to compare it to the doping scandal is an overstatement.

The IPC sets the framework for classification criteria but as each federation/ governing body (BA currently oversees GB para athletes assessment) carries out its own assessments there will be some discrepancies from nation to…[Read more]

My reading was that WvN sustained the injury a few weeks ago and decided not to go under the knife straight away so he could dance at his wedding last weekend. It’s only an assumption but if he’s put the op off for a number of weeks perhaps it’s not as severe as some of the more serious tears

Prescod is above criticism as far as opting out of the commonwealths goes. He had a phenomenal season last year, I don’t think he lacks racing nous either. His history of injuries is well documented, if he and his coach think racing sparingly early season is the way to go I don’t see a problem with it

Good to see some of the younger names going, Emerson, Caudery, Agyapong, Hague and Gale all deserving of the chance. Like others I was disappointed not to see the Bruney, Ogbeta, Barrett and Edoburun, I can only assume they have uni commitments.

Do they really need to take 250 staff to support 400 athletes, if the budget’s stretched thin surely…[Read more]

SAm Talbot has said he won’t be competing next year, he needs to give his body a chance to recover. Credit to the guy for sticking with the sport when he could have gone back to rugby

Laps, Coe has talked before about a shortened worlds so I think there is cause for concern. Next years Euro’s follows the same format as last years – in the sprints if you’re ranked in the top 10 you get an automatic bye to the semis. I thought that was something they introduced last year to attract some of the bigger names who may have been put…[Read more]

Contenders have been announced today, Barshim and Lasitskene have been very entertaining all year in the HJ if not quite jumping heights that compare to the all time best. I’d go for Thiam and Vetter who both delivered WC golds and set very competitive marks earlier in the season. Manyonga was excellent too

    Men
    Mutaz Essa Barshim (QAT)
    Pawel…[Read more]

I’ve just had a quick look at some of the medalists from the recent European u23 and u20 championships. How good would it be to see some of the following selected:

Edoburun, Rowden, Riley-Laborde, Agyapong, Turner, Lucy Bryan

Lonsdale, Gale, Maya Bruney, Alicia Barrett, Molly Caudery, Ogbeta

Bruney and Agyapong look very promising and deserve a…[Read more]

I feel like we’re going over old ground here, but my point essentially was there’s no logic in highlighting the high points of the 80’s and 90’s without looking at the wider picture. Tokyo 64 – 12 medals, Mexico City 68 – 4 medals, Munich 72 – 4 medals, Montreal 76 – 1 medal, Moscow 1980 – 10 medals and on and on. There’s been a lot of ups and…[Read more]
