Muir’s time was pretty good all things considered, she went through 1500 in 4.00, it’s just those in front of her ran superbly, quite a few shooting up the all time list for the mile.

The Italian girl did brilliantly, I wasn’t that fussed about the HJ in Berlin, I thought it would be a procession, it’s now looking like a good contest, Demerev…[Read more]

I notice that the poster who I would describe as the most sceptical about various different issues in athletics is completely comfortable about this world record, yet a number of posters who are much less sceptical, in general, than yourself are uneasy about Chepkoech’s world record.

She went 8 seconds under the previous WR in one fell swoop, J…[Read more]

I’m not surprised nobody’s talking about that steeple WR, Jebets WR was as dodgy as they come, no wonder she’s being investigated by the integrity unit.

Sensational run by Miller-Uibo, far quicker than I thought she’d go this season, overall a very entertaining meet

I read in the latest Sean Ingle piece that China are interested in hosting the next World Cup in 2020, I strange way to curry favour with the IAAF, by sending two thirds of a team

The qualification system makes very little difference at the top end, the top athletes will always qualify for that year’s championships with ease (with the odd exception of an athlete coming back from injury) Where the qualification system needs to be smart is at the lower end to ensure athletes from the lesser nations get a chance and as o…[Read more]

I was very impressed by Emerson’s efforts earlier in the week, at this point she looks to have more potential than she did at the same stage last year when she came 4th at the Euro u20.

Had she competed in the individual HJ she would have ranked 4th going into the final, with 3 athletes on 1.90. The speed will come with time, she might never be a…[Read more]

The biggest problem this event has had is that it wasn’t officially backed by the IAAF in the first place, there’s no way Germany and China would have sent those teams if it has been, China hasn’t sent athletes for 30% of the events. If you look at the world relays, an event which has no real meaning in the wider context, more big names show up. T…[Read more]

Dodson was quickest at the semi final stage by 0.2, no doubt the Americans will improve tonight but I think he’s in with a chance of the gold. So far 3 male sprinters have made the final yet we’re not entering a team for the men’s 4×1, BAs unusual logic continues

Good run by Awuah, she hasn’t put down the times Dasher and Lansiquot did at the…[Read more]

The whole structure of the season is in need of a shake up. I think the IAAF are moving towards holding the major championships in late August each year, which would free up weekends earlier in the season for events like this.

It still surprises me the way national championship are scattered around June and July whilst Diamond Leagues are taking…[Read more]

I have reservations about taking Perri in the discretionary slot, she’s looked good at points over the last few years but has been found wanting at the national championships several times now, I don’t think her body can handle races in back to back days. I favour Clark at this point, she was our best runner at last years WCs – 16th at semi fin…[Read more]

These conversations have been going on for years, when she emerged in 2012 and continued to improve up to 2014 we all began talking about how she’d likely go on to score 7000 points. Perhaps we got it wrong. Because Jess was such a tough competitor who improved throughout her career, particularly in her weaker events, we assumed KJT would follow s…[Read more]

The schedule isn’t ideal as the heats of the 1500 take place on the morning of the 800 final, but she seems to relish these situations. Sadly the women’s 1500 isn’t any great shakes either, Hasan hasn’t raced much this year and Klosterhalfen intends to do the 1500

Posters on here have often criticised KJT for not throwing the javelin enough and then criticise her when she does, the girl can’t win. Would she be better placed for Berlin if she wasn’t doing the javelin?

Yes, I’ve often felt she needs to do more speed work to improve her 1500. Dibaba and Kipyegon are capable of 1.58.0 over 800, Muir’s not quite at that level yet.

The schedule for the 800/1500 isn’t ideal with the 1500 heats are on the same day as the 800 final, but she seems to relish the challenge, the women’s 1500 isn’t in any great shakes th…[Read more]

BA have changed their selection policy slightly, now you have to compete in the event you intend to do at the summers championship. But if you would like to be considered for 2 events you don’t have to do both of them, understandable considering the number of races that would involve over 2 days. So if she’s doing the 800 it must mean she…[Read more]
