It was a Jamaica one-two in the men’s discus.

    Gold – Frederick Dacres 68.20
    Silver – Travis Smikle 63.98

All of Dacres six throws would’ve won gold….

    Another gold for Jamaica….

    Women’s shot putt final

    Gold – Danielle Thomas-Dodd (Jamaica) 19.36 NR
Silver – Valerie Adams (NZ) 18.70
Bronze – Brittany Crew (Can) 18.32

During the Bolt era, Jamaica had a swathe of gold medals, and lots of silvers and bronzes. The medal rush might not be as great as it once was, but Jamaica is still doing well in the post-Bolt era.

Gold in the women’s steeplechase – Aisha Praught
Gold and silver in the women’s triple jump – Kimberly Williams and Shanieka Ricketts
    Gold and silver…[Read more]

With regards to the controversy over the 400m….

There was an interesting discussion between Greg Rutherford and Michael Johnson on BBC TV. Here’s a transcript:

Rutherford: “The Brits were amazing at finding these perfect shots in the relays. Remember over the years we’d get people disgualified finding that one frame that they stepped…[Read more]

Safo-Antwi makes it to the final while Ujah and Robertson do not…interesting.

The two Jamaicans don’t make it either, but Turkey’s Emre Barnes, formerly Winston Barnes, who still lives and trains in Jamaica, is there.

That was a massive false start by Ujah….

Pearson fails to advance to the final of the women’s 60m hurdles….

The problem is that the British visa system is far more cumbersome than other countries, like the US.

That catches some athletes by surprise.

Good to see Jamaica winning two silvers, both in the field, rather than on the track.

The hurdles heats were interesting…the medals could go to Kendra Harrison, Danielle williams, and Sally Pearson, if there are no mishaps.

Another bit of common sense…prevention is better than cure.

This incident has embarrassed Britain. More needs to be done to tackle one of our dirty secrets…that our hotels have poor standards of hygiene. Then, we wouldn’t need to have a quarantine….

Not one guy under 20 seconds….

The men’s 200m final was disappointing, and seems to be suffering from a post-Usain Bolt hangover. It was won by Turkey’s Ramil Guliyev in a slow time of 20.09, ahead of favourite Wayde van Niekerk of South africa and Trinidadian Jereem Richards, both of whom clocked 20.11.

This is a poor event that’s up for…[Read more]

Well, he endeared himself to the crowd, which was very loud in cheering him on…there’s a sense that he got a raw deal from the authorities who mismanaged the situation.

I think he was trying to prove a point to the IAAF with those push-ups….

NoroVirus is transmitted in an environment where poor hygiene is practised. These British hotels have very poor hygiene…one of Britain’s dirty secrets.

These hotels tend to contract their cleaning out to cleaning companies. a relative of mine worked for one of these companies, and because she came from Jamaica, she would scrub and clean…[Read more]

So they should have shut up about zika too, then – that’s my point…what an over-inflated scare that was!

Did anyone get pulled from the Rio Olympics because of zika? No….

I see Michelle-Lee ahye has been pulled due to the noro-virus too.

    It’s an utter shambles….

Certain North atlantic countries made such a fuss over zika in Brazil last year, but nobody was withdrawn during the competition as a result of zika. Nobody reported suffering as a result of zika in the immediate aftermath of the Rio Olympics.

But this Noro Virus or whatever it is seems to be far deadlier. I’ve caught…[Read more]

On the track, the water seems to drain slower on lanes 1,2,3…I hope that won’t be a factor in the men’s 100m semis and final later today.

ET and Bowie look very good in the women’s 100m….
