    with you Stefan.

The public vote is by whom, experts on arrange of sports or just people with a passing interest in some sport.. or people who vote after a nice BBC biased programme coverage; lots of emoting all over the place.

Amazed at the depressing attitude of Steve on this subject.
I recall well taking a friend and passing fan of sport to his first session of T and F at national level and I tried valiantly to explain everything happening while the poor guy tried to follow two field events and track at the same time.. He never went to another meet again… “too…[Read more]

Disagree entirely with the negative view of Coe, who is at least attempting to consider the way forward to arrest the major indifference to our sport across the globe; many of the hardcore fans of track and field across the globe are conservative in the extreme and want no changes whatsoever; note the hysteria when 4 rounds instead of six in…[Read more]

You know that the All- athletics site ranks consistently performances much higher than placements. I don’t give credence for one offs, or outliers as it is now called; to me, and many others I suspect, its what honours you achieve in the globals that really counts. The rankings from the above are vastly overrated in GBs favour as far as I am…[Read more]

Farah was not unbeaten during the year and had one high quality performance this year, in the 10k in London.
Seems unfair on the unbeaten Kendricks, and Barshim who were also Gold medallists in London.

Was the World Indoors selected as Birmingham before or after we knew of the choice of CG venue as Gold Coast.?
I never can understand if the UKA people knew of the CG choice some time before the choice of Birmingham why it happened. The problems of a March indoors and a CG a month later would surely have been known and we could have gone for a…[Read more]

Stefanidi, Lasitskene, and Wlodarcyk have been unbeaten and won Golds this year and ought to be in the lead; how you decide on them I don’t know.
Barshim, Kendricks and Fajdek the top 3 guys; won Golds and probably unbeaten.

The 90s lost years… crazy rubbishy views for all of us who saw a stack of great British runners throughout the decade and even the odd Javelin thrower triple jumper etc. I believe you to be on need of some help especially when you talk of sportshall as having an impact… as for the money spent on athletics at the top end its impact has been…[Read more]

According to my examination of the Americans medals their average from 1983 to 1999
was 21 medals and their average in this century including this year is approx 21 medals. So no big dropping off despite a number of reasons that were set out in Bigguts post, affecting that country same as ours.
But then again they don’t like losers, excuse makers,…[Read more]

Steve what a bunch of red herrings by Biggut in stating that matters such as civil war and famine in Africa or social policy in the political stuff in Bigguts list( not to mention some other naïve stuff in his list) has effected British abilities to win as many medals in this years WC on home territory as we have in previous generations .…[Read more]

And lets hope for a very small squad in Birmingham. There may be some nice warm weather and opportunities for some softer medals in Gold Coast but for me the Europeans will be equally significant action next year with good quality field events but slightly less quality in the sprints and distance events.
Over competition for British athletes…[Read more]

In 2003 we got more individual medallists in the WC in Paris than 2017 with Mo the lone individual recipient.
This year we had the same number of individual medallists as 2005 when PR won her marathon. So, if as has been stated the noughties was a bad time for individual medal success in the WC why is this year better…. oh we won some soft…[Read more]

This year we got less individuals winning medals at WC than in the old days of the 80s and 90s; I never took it beyond those dates as the sneering posters love telling me that it was not a golden age then; and the early 2000s was bad; not what I was referring to.

Because you cannot compare apples and oranges. Athletics is half a dozen entirely unconnected events unlike cycling and rowing which have been the most successful of the sports that you so glibly state justifies the payment of 27 million per Olympic cycle to UKA etc.
Track and Field is not earning the success at individual level to justify the…[Read more]

Medals won by British individuals at World Champs 1983 to 1999 and relay medals.

    1983 5 medals and 2 relays
    1987 7 medals and 1 relay
    1991 5 medals and 2 relays
    1993 8 medals and 2 relays
    1995 5 medals
    1997 4 medals and 2 relays
    1999 6 medals and 1 relay

2017 2 medals (by one athlete) and 4 relays. Must be the London effect.

    Yes indeed far…[Read more]
