Very impressed with the second half of Prescod’s race.

    Shaunae Miller-Uibo is looking dominant.

Why did Steven Gardiner not run the Commonwealths?

PS – I actually think it’s likely that there are corrupt officials – just not that they would bother to taint the innocent.

    Possible but unlikely?

This quote from the Telegraph seems particularly bizarre:

Kiprop then suggests the doping control officers asked him for an unspecified amount of money, which he transferred “in good faith” using a mobile phone-based money transfer app.

“At that time I did not see the money as inducement or bribe of anything,” says Ki…

Good to see MHS’s Brisbane injury wasn’t serious.

There just might not be enough data at other distances.

I can imagine individual meetings, even the Diamond League, putting on special “open” races including them, perhaps, as a first step.

Isn’t testosterone tested for anyway as part of routine drugs tests? I thought the current situation was that high levels were just ignored if an athlete…[Read more]

Well done to Mo. I was a bit sceptical as to how he would adapt to the marathon, but that was a very strong run.

    Fantastic run by Vivian Cheruiyot.

Steve, you can claim you would have won ;)

I was definitely a bit over optimistic with some of my picks, but others were the result of under performance by the athlete.

Doha conditions are going to be awful.

Lucky, I don’t think I mentioned the para events. (I fast forwarded through those.)

That’s my concern – he’s clearly not very stable, and we don’t want matters to get worse. I don’t want to pander to him, no, but isolation just makes people like that worse. (Obviously they should have to submit to regulation in order to compete.) But perhaps we’re straying into politics?

I agree we should pull out of the football; but do you…[Read more]

Basically I have to agree with everything you said. But I would add Tom Bosworth as a good performer.

One random point, I thought how economical it was to have the 100h heats just after the hep hurdles; I’ve never seen that scheduled before although of course it stops the option of doubling up.

I read on another thread that you hadn’t been well…[Read more]

The only issue I would have (seeing as they are clearly not honest in any way) is that making them into an even greater pariah nation is not great for world security.

Thanks, Lucky – that explains it.

Something I’ve just noticed, is that several of the athletes who were cleared to compete as neutrals last year, don’t seem to be on the current list. Not sure if I’m missing something?

    Current list: http://www.european-athletics.org/european-athletics/what-we-do/antidoping/ana.html

ANA at last year;s WCs:…[Read more]

Good final day for the British athletes after poor performances earlier by some of their team mates. Great runs by both the England sprint relay teams; I guess Lorraine Ugen used to run relays for her US college team? She did very well holding off Thompson. Who was she subbing for?

Disappointing to see the England 4×4 girls deprived of a medal…[Read more]

Kat managed to pull off the gold despite injury and sub-par performance. Very strong from Emerson.

The men’s steeplechase was an exciting race. I don’t mind a Kenyan 1-2-3 (usually boring) when it’s in a race like that.

In the 4×4, you only had to finish the race and not get dq’d to get through to the final. Has that ever happened before?

Excellent performances by Langford, Doyle and DAS.

    KJT is looking rather mediocre.

Another day, another rubbish performance (or non-performance) by a British medal contender.

Brighter signs in the 200 semis and the women’s LJ quals, but let’s see what happens in the finals.

Aisha Praught ran brilliantly in the steeplechase (and Rosie Clarke did well to get 4th).
The men’s LJ was a good competition.

Oh dear, what a dispiriting set of British underperformances, apart from Melissa Courtney’s very unexpected bronze and some promising heats. We’re all going to be in minus scores in the prediction game.

Congrats to Melissa (although I was amused by how very unWelsh she sounds) – she really showed up the better known British girls.

    Interesting…[Read more]

Ultimately it means that normal XX women would have no opportunity to compete at a top level.

Back to topic, Simbine ran very well in the 100, but what a missed opportunity for Gemili due to his injury ;(
