Agree, better to bank 1 than overstretch for 2. Then again, she has shown ambition before when racing for global gold instead of ‘playing it safe’ for minor medals.

Is 800 / 5000 attempt possible? Perhaps at her (current) min and max internationally competitive range, and difficult to train optimally for simultaneously, but could be an…[Read more]

Brave gamblers out there! Any good odds on BTE?!

Perhaps the IAAF should adopt a policy of waiting at least 5 years post race for medal ceremonies. In some cases may be less embarrassing than what could be about to happen.

Thank you for the more in depth info Robo.

I think your description concerning the tone of the tweet is more accurate in terms of its offensive nature over anything else. I unreservedly apologize for using the term ‘sectarian’ in this particular case. I can assure you however I am no fan of either side so there is no bias on my part. If I was…[Read more]

Sharpe is a decent shout for the final but I think there’s just too much qualitydodgyness ahead of her even if she’s running into pb range.

Unfortunately since her blatant sectarian tweet and pathetic excuse I have little time for her.

Wish her well but I don’t think she will in contention next year and will likely struggle to challenge the 2 min mark.

She may have had underlying injury problems but her poor tactics have always been her biggest problem.

Fingers crossed! Mens 800 (and 1500!) needs a lift in the UK. There’s little depth at the top end which is exposed year on year by the injury prone osagie. Rimmer is a decent runner but he seems nearly as attached to the treatment table as osagie.

I like the timetable clashes. Otherwise swimmers can win 7 golds per event and be clearly better than Farah, bolt and hoy put together :yahoo:

What evidence is this? What finals has he made? If that’s the case why wasn’t Dai Green selected? He’s demonstrated a far greater ability to make finals and win medals! Potential is one subjective thing, doing it when it counts against the big boys in another.

Nima200- I appreciate your view point. In line with what I said previously I wont be surprised that come October, Green is named on funding despite a fair to middling to rubbish performance in Beijing.

At all levels (and I’m sure all sports) gov bodies always display favouritism for certain athletes. See Brett Morse and his coach as an example…[Read more]

My guess is they are trying to fast track him back onto lottery funding. By naming him in relay they have a reason to get him on relay funding at least.

Would it be synical of me to go further and suggest that he was probably informed (or in a dialogue) that despite not meeting selection criteria he would picked in relay so as to help set up a…[Read more]

Are we going to see any surprise medalists? Farah, Rutherford, relays etc wouldn’t surprise me if they got a medal.Perhaps the HJ girls or Hughes in the 200m (then again I don’t think it would be a shock if he went sub 20 and was in the mix for the minor medals).

    Theoretically this shouldn’t be a surprise…right? I mean all athletes are…[Read more]

Although it’s now been speculated across several sites who this person may be…with the necessary financial clout required for the high powered lawyers it could only realistically have been 1 of 2 people. Considering that one of those two is being shouted about as ‘not abnormal’ in the press the number of possible ‘abnormal’ candidates has…[Read more]

Just looked up timetable…interesting to note the number of national and pre-programme races…maybe UKA could learn a thing or two about giving domestic race opportunities…

    What stats are these?

Given the statistical unlikeliness of breaking such a highly suspect world record, the ease of the way the record was broken, the reaction of athletes post race and the rumors around the coach, you will forgive me for personally being skeptical over the legitimacy of the new WR holders performances.

    With concerns to…[Read more]

I’m on the same page Soviet. Hope its not the case but you can certainly see a frustration in KJT that I have yet to see in JEH.

And sorry DP- unfortunately I’m in the camp that doesn’t rate walking at all. Regardless of GB interest, it is just so boring and even bold breakaways seem uneventful.

I think multievents have captured the…[Read more]

    Agree with Juan.

This isn’t brain surgery. Get your fastest 4, practice at training camps. Funding for relay runners only serves to sustain average athletes. We rarely see relay pool runners progress. Whip the cushy carpet out from under their feet and lets see if a bit of adversity stimulates them out of their stagnation.

    It no surprise to…[Read more]

The only global medal race that I can remember vaguely near a fast pace was Tadese vs Bekele circa 2005 (or was it earlier?) over 10km. Really respected Tadese for actually trying to break the field instead of settling for the typical 9000-9600m jog then sprint.

Radcliffe tried it a few times as well of course (again over 10km). Unfortunately…[Read more]

For those more knowledgeable/numerical- is there any possibility of all three being in real contention at the start of the 800m? Will be fascinating to watch.

Out of all of them JEH has shown the most steel in competition so if it is tight I would favor her to win. I think she has more in the 800 if she could pace it better, always seems to go…[Read more]
