Sadly I am with HARRYHILL1 pretty well all the way. I struggle with mediocrity, false hopes and money spent on warm weather training showing poor return on investment.
Whilst the 800 m lad ran well, it was an average field and 30 odd years ago he would not even have made the UK team.

Field events? I just don’t know where to start, and it appears…[Read more]

Exactly right Steve. She may well improve, but big changes in the shot and spear is rather like getting into your car in the morning and driving to work. Fingers crossed that all the traffic lights will be on green just doesn’t happen. She may have to face reality, sadly.

Isn’t it strange that once the Manchester marathon of 3 years running was discovered to be 380 metres short, UK Athletics wiped out all those performances as soon as they could reach for their pencils. Yet performances for known and self confessed drug cheats remain in the ranking lists. Spineless, cowardly, two faced bastards! This is the best…[Read more]

R.I.P. Ron Clarke, a true great Australian athlete

I was very skeptical given the high profile withdrawals. However several others stepped up to make the meeting a resounding success.

Jeremy, I can spend plenty of time stating the negatives but I would rather focus on the positives and IMHO there was plenty to enjoy.

Thanks by the way for the many that updated results on the meet. It helps when…[Read more]

Wells and drugs? We will never know after 35 years, and quite frankly there are more important things in life to ponder.
What I do know is that I ran for the same club as Allan in Scotland and lived for several years in Guildford our paths crossing on a regular basis. Drugs were never even a rumour, despite the fact that I knew others on the…[Read more]

What about Steve Pearson? 88.80 with the old javelin and he threw the hammer 67.45. Not a bad double.

Thanks for the feed Matthew, it wasn’t perfect but then neither am I. Refreshing that someone cares about delivering a service to the Athletic public.

Wel said dpickup. I may not agree with all that SteveK26 posts, but he conducts himself in a thoroughly decent manner. A pleasure to have on the forum!

Sadly, the world has changed and we have not kept up (IMHO). A restructuring of the O Games is but a hop, skip and jump away!

Much as I love athletics, we are living in a fools paradise if we think that the rest of the world is still in love with track and field. The world has moved on (for better or worse) and left our sport behind.
We rely on Mr Bolt to carry the sport, what happens when he is no more?

The sport has done a dismal job at marketing, promoting,…[Read more]

Malcolm Arnold has one hell of a run, 40 plus years- beat that if you can! Having said that, I cannot blame Dai Greene trying a fresh approach for one last throw of the dice. Good luck.

The reference to Hiitler, Mao and Stalin is truly disgusting and has no place on an athletic’s forum!

Dasaolu seems to have got over his technique problems that would result in injury. Early days, I know, in his career but the ‘experts’ seem to have got this wrong. Still, at least we have the coming of Okoro to look forward to…..er.mmm. She can always fall back on relays!

treadwater1, I value and respect your opinion. However, I still have absolutely no interest in para events. Good luck to them and I wish them all the best, but they are just not what I want to pay to see no matter how few there are.

I have massive respect for para athletes. However I have zero interest in going to an event like the CG and having it thrust upon me.
I have no intention of trying to sway people to my stance and likewise I am not going to change my mind.
Having an opinion is part of the rich tapestry of life and I welcome all……well almost all. :-)
