Fingers crossed. Maybe call in the month running up to it to check the position of the long jump pit and complain if it’s too far away.

What I loved about the Worlds was that if you set on your profile what event(s) you were most interested in, they would try and put you closest to that event. I watched all four heptathlon sessions and had…[Read more]

Yes, exactly, I have the same problem – got an email today saying ‘hurry up and book’.

I forgot to mention in my earlier reply, but this year I actually gave up on my seat. I walked around the concourse to the home straight and just stood in between the two tiers and watched from there. Now and again marshalls would shoo people on, but I just…[Read more]

Phil was fine in that he was a nice chap, and I guess he was a comforting presence to a lot of athletes, but I never liked the way he interviewed in that he never asked questions, he’d just make a statement and then stick a mic in their face.

Good question, and one I would be interested to know the answer to as well.

I sent a moany email to BA about the long jump recently because last year the pits were on the home straight because the seating hadn’t been moved back, and this year (despite the map showing them on the back straight), some Einstein had set up pyrotechnics on the…[Read more]

Well, I’m an idiot, I even checked on that page before posting here! Thanks very much.

Does anybody know when startlists will be available for Loughborough LEAP or who is likely to be going? Thanks

“Jessica Ennis-Hill says fear of getting injured and ending her career on a low prompted her retirement from athletics. “My body can’t cope with the volume of training that it used to,” she told BBC sports editor Dan Roan. It was that fear of ‘do I push on that one more year and potentially get injured and come away…[Read more]

I’m sad for me, but happy for her.

I think London would have been a fitting finale to her career, and it would have been nice to know that was her last competition rather than the fact Rio ‘might be’ her last.

However I can see why she wanted to draw a line under what has been a great career. One of the greatest heptathletes for sure, and her…[Read more]

The moment Darkside said venues were ‘sold out throughout’ was the point I realised he was just trolling for a reaction.

  • replied to the topic marcus in the forum Current events 1 year, 2 months ago

Darkside was talking about London, though.

Where did you hear this? I’ve never seen or heard any reports mentioning anything about hooliganism or thefts.

The press reporting doom and gloom before the games (along with football championships) is standard. Almost before every games there are negative stories about whether venues will be ready, teething problems are blown out of proportion etc.

On the field of play, I thought Rio was brilliant. I was totally hooked and there were some incredible…[Read more]

Yes, Claire Balding was brilliant, the consummate professional and I thought Chris Hoy was very good as well.

Leon I thought was OK, I thought his line of commentary was a bit too basic for my tastes, but you can’t fault his enthusiasm.

I forgot to mention trackside Phil. Unlike a lot of you, I do like to hear athletes’ opinions when they come…[Read more]

I forgot to mention trackside Phil. Unlike a lot of you, I do like to hear athletes’ opinions when they come off track because they’ll be at their most honest and candid, however I can’t stand Phil and his ‘questions’ – note the…[Read more]

I don’t think it has been too bad. I think they do end up talking too much, and the channel-hopping has been annoying, but I think it’s a fine line they have to tread between keeping us happy, and also trying to engage a new audience. I agree the balance is tipped the wrong way in favour of talking in the studio, though, when they could still be…[Read more]

In the interests of fairness, I think it should probably be mentioned that tonight they hit the medal target of seven. I do agree with most of the points raised in this thread though.

Nice work by the girls in both of the relays!

Ruth Beitia wins the high jump at 1.97m, a lower height than the heptathletes achieved last weekend.

Well done Mo! Team GB have now equalled the number of medals from London, and will get at least one more in the boxing – incredible! Well done to Andy Butchart too, that was a great race.

Also fingers crossed for a bronze or two in Taekwondo to take us over 65 medals to beat London 2012, which would be an incredible achievement.
