The standards for all the field events are a bit easier than for the Worlds but for both men and women a few of the track event standards are actually tougher (e.g., from memory, the men’s 400 & 3000SC and the women’s 200 & 400). Not sure what the rationale is for that.

In Australia there’s a decent circuit of 7 or 8 professional meetings that normally takes place from late January to mid-March.

So, I wonder how many of our athletes will give indoors a miss and head down to Oz a couple of months early to get some warm weather training, competition and acclimatisation? It would certainly seem a better way to…[Read more]

Rosie Clarke & Iona Lake were 7th & 8th in the steeple in Zagreb tonight, both with PBs – 9:32.10 and 9:39.03 respectively. Lake’s time broke her Pb by almost 10s.
Norah Jeruto won in sub-9:05 just like she did 2 days ago in Berlin.

Very well I imagine. With mid-8:20s speed Laura Muir could probably crack 9 mins. Weightman, what’s she, an…[Read more]

New German record in the Steeple in Berlin for Gesa-Felicitas Krause, 9:11.85.

In other steeple news, after being twice European Junior Champion back in 2007/09, Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal returned to the event at the Norwegian Championships and soloed to a NR, 9:13.35!

As promised, here’s the link for the Universiade Men’s Javelin today – https://livestream.com/FISU/events/7635203/videos/161866510

Round 4 starts at 3:45:00. If you just want to see the 91m throws and Cheng’s Tiina Lillak-style celebration (a bit more sedate than Lillak though) then Round 6 starts at 3:59:10.

It’s certainly been the year of the Javelin!

Incredible Javelin contest at the Universiade in Taipei. It all happened in the last 3 rounds with 4 throws over Marius Corbett’s old Universiade record of 86.50.

Huang threw 86.64 in Round 4 to take the lead. Hoffman threw 88.33 in Round 5 and then in round 6 Cheng, lying in bronze at 84m, threw…[Read more]

Live stream with English commentary also on https://livestream.com/FISU (On demand video also available). Today’s evening session was rain-delayed and Eurosport had to cut away for the cycling.

I’m not sure the BBC could afford Tim Hutchings. I imagine he’s on a fair whack at Eurosport and NBC/USATF. Moving trackside would feel like a demotion anyway.

My bet is that they’ll give the job to Colin.

Here’s an explanation of what will happen from LetsRun:
“This is a unique event with only two entrants: Brits Tom Bosworth and Adam Clarke. The premise is simple. Both men will start at the 200-meter mark. Bosworth, a race walker, will try to walk 1000 meters before Clarke, a distance runner, can run 1400. Bosworth set a world record of 5:31.08…[Read more]

Thanks, @mysterybrick. Can’t disagree with any of your assessments or grades.

Particularly glad that our 1500m women all performed very well (GB men, were you watching?) though, of course, gutted for Laura Muir so narrowly missing a medal. Whilst Laura may remain the only potential global medalist of the bunch – Laura Weightman lacks top-end…[Read more]
