Excellent 1500 in Eugene. I really didn’t expect Houlihan to run 3:59! Very good opener for Our Laura, toughing it out down the home straight and 1.2 seconds quicker than her opener on the same track last year. Some big times behind too, Arafi sub-4 and Linden Hall with a new Aussie record.

There’ll be no beating Karissa Schweizer in the 5000 or…[Read more]

Yes, the talent and depth is insane.

Just a 55.50 for Sydney this time. I just watched it and she hit the penultimate hurdle with the toe of her leading leg, very nearly causing her to fall.

Watching the NCAA D2 & the D1 Preliminary Rounds these last couple of days I’m always staggered by the athletics facilities that American universities have (it’s no wonder so many promising non-American athletes go there).
I’m not really up on British universities so does anyone know, other than Loughborough, which British universities own their…[Read more]

The Women’s 100 Hurdles looks to be shaping up nicely for Berlin. Already there’s 10 sub-13 athletes this year and that’s without Dutkiewicz, Ofili, Hildebrand etc. The latest new members of the sub-13 club are two youngsters, Luca Kozak (HUN) 12.96 last weekend and Luminosa Bogliolo (ITA) 12.99 today in Savona. The European leader at the moment…[Read more]

More live athletics than you can shake a stick at this weekend and something for everyone!

Thu 24 – Sat 26 May NCAA D2 Championships (Charlotte, NC) – Winning marks are similar to BUCS but there’s more depth than BUCS; incl Thomas Staines in the 800 (ncaa.com – VPN/Hola needed at the moment because NCAA is blocking European visitors due to the…[Read more]

Exciting? About Alex Yee, definitely, I’d say. About Vernon & Thompson, no, but it’s good to see they’ve still got something in their legs.

It’s all relative. We’re not suddenly going to have runners knocking out 27:20 but
    a) we should be looking first to be competitive at a European level and if all 3 maintain their fitness they should be…[Read more]

Some top marks in Rehlingen – Hofman 91.44 & Vadlejch 88.76. Vetter only 84m on this occasion. In the discus Lukas Weisshaidinger threw 68.9x, Christoph Harting 66-mid.

At the same meeting, Holly Bradshaw won with 4.60. She had 3 attempts at 4.73 but none were particularly close. Decent return to international competition for Renelle Lamote,…[Read more]

Hard to believe but this is the first time since 1991 that we’ve had 3 men go sub-28 in one season. And there’s still plenty of time for others (Dewi Griffiths, Marc Scott, Ben Connor?) to maybe add to that.

The headlines from the Men’s race at Highgate – 1. Alex Yee runs 27:51 and books his seat on the place to Berlin by being first Brit and smashing through the qualification standard! 2. Seven men broke 28 mins with 3 Brits amongst them. Maybe there’s a little hope for European & British men’s distance running after all!

A strong field for this…[Read more]

Some terrific times in the men’s European Cup/Highgate 10,000m including Alex Yee. More to follow when I’ve got full results (the official timing website has got it wrong but corrected it for the ladies).

Emelia Gorecka is making her 10,000 debut at Highgate tomorrow. I hope she persists with it because she’s never had the basic speed to be competitive at the European level in the 5000.

Interesting to note that she’s at the University of Kentucky where Keni Harrison is an assistant coach.

At the same SEC meeting Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran 12.40 (+1.2) in the high hurdles. She’s also at Kentucky!

I’ve had computer problems this week so there’s no document this week. Instead I’ll list the streams/coverage below. Apologies for the format of the links for the Boston streams but it’s necessary to get around the forum’s blocking of certain web addresses (one reason I started doing all this in downloadable documents).

I saw the race too and 53.10 probably is the correct Fully Automatic Timing for Maya Bruney. Stadium clocks (and any on-screen clocks linked to the stadium clock – not relevant in this case) always lag by between 0.1 and 0.4 seconds, depending on the stadium/clock. But, these days, I don’t know why that would be? Surely technologically they can…[Read more]
