Agreed. I hope they’ll ‘groom’ her to replace Paula and her croaky whispering. It’s a forlorn hope though, I fear.

Chuffed that Harriet Knowles-Jones got her gold. I always enjoy watching her run and she pulled away quite easily on the last lap. Lili Anna Toth of Hungary (hot favourite at the U20 Steeplechase this year but DNF) was 2nd.

A bit surprised that Reh beat Klosterhalfen again in the women’s U23. Very good run by Jess Judd for bronze but did she make…[Read more]

Or maybe Charlotte Taylor was a bit fatigued from the NCAAs? Or she’d been celebrating San Francisco’s 2nd place a bit too hard with her team-mates?

There was some mild controversy on Twitter, led by Luke Gunn , that Katie Bingle (who’s come from nowhere) didn’t get the spot ahead of Charlotte for finishing 5th of the seniors in Liverpool. I’m…[Read more]

Looks like a strong British team selected for the event in Samorin, Slovakia.
For the first time there will be a senior mixed relay of 4 legs.

Welcome back Emilia Gorecka to the GB vest! Surprise under-performances in the U20 trials race at Liverpool means there’s no places for Jemma Reekie or Amelia Quirk.

Regarding the proposed qualification system for major championships, All Athletics has been given the contract.

For many years they’ve produced their own weekly world rankings. You can see the rankings for 2017 here. I imagine they will just tweak this existing system rather than reinventing the wheel?

    Whilst I’m not a subscriber of…[Read more]

I’ve been away from the forum for a couple of months but note that there’s been no acknowledgement/discussion of recent results so I thought I’d do a bit of that here:

Quite a few surprises at yesterday’s British Cross Challenge in a wet and muddy Liverpool which also served as the trials for the European XC Champs in 2 weeks’ time. Because of…[Read more]

The standards for all the field events are a bit easier than for the Worlds but for both men and women a few of the track event standards are actually tougher (e.g., from memory, the men’s 400 & 3000SC and the women’s 200 & 400). Not sure what the rationale is for that.

In Australia there’s a decent circuit of 7 or 8 professional meetings that normally takes place from late January to mid-March.

So, I wonder how many of our athletes will give indoors a miss and head down to Oz a couple of months early to get some warm weather training, competition and acclimatisation? It would certainly seem a better way to…[Read more]

Rosie Clarke & Iona Lake were 7th & 8th in the steeple in Zagreb tonight, both with PBs – 9:32.10 and 9:39.03 respectively. Lake’s time broke her Pb by almost 10s.
Norah Jeruto won in sub-9:05 just like she did 2 days ago in Berlin.

Very well I imagine. With mid-8:20s speed Laura Muir could probably crack 9 mins. Weightman, what’s she, an…[Read more]

New German record in the Steeple in Berlin for Gesa-Felicitas Krause, 9:11.85.

In other steeple news, after being twice European Junior Champion back in 2007/09, Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal returned to the event at the Norwegian Championships and soloed to a NR, 9:13.35!

As promised, here’s the link for the Universiade Men’s Javelin today – https://livestream.com/FISU/events/7635203/videos/161866510

Round 4 starts at 3:45:00. If you just want to see the 91m throws and Cheng’s Tiina Lillak-style celebration (a bit more sedate than Lillak though) then Round 6 starts at 3:59:10.

It’s certainly been the year of the Javelin!

Incredible Javelin contest at the Universiade in Taipei. It all happened in the last 3 rounds with 4 throws over Marius Corbett’s old Universiade record of 86.50.

Huang threw 86.64 in Round 4 to take the lead. Hoffman threw 88.33 in Round 5 and then in round 6 Cheng, lying in bronze at 84m, threw…[Read more]

I’m not sure the BBC could afford Tim Hutchings. I imagine he’s on a fair whack at Eurosport and NBC/USATF. Moving trackside would feel like a demotion anyway.

My bet is that they’ll give the job to Colin.
