Agreed it’s definitely early in the season and “we” should keep our expectations in check. Bruney has already made an impact in the 400m and it’s not even her main event. Whatever she and her coach decide to do next is cool with me :good:

BTW Cheriece Hylton is another one to watch…

Robo2, It will be good to see a proper head-to-head race in the 400m Women’s event with the above names and Bruney at the Loughborough International Games in 2 weeks time B-)

I was looking forward to Maya Bruney opening up her season

The clock was definitely on 52 seconds when she crossed the line. I reviewed the film a number of times frame by frame. The clock changes to 53 in a frame when she’s about 1 metre past the finish line. I guess the official time was probably rounded up from the manual…[Read more]

:good: I would like to see her open up in the 100m. Its still early days and important to remain grounded. However she has a good support network around her. If she can maintain this level of commitment, inbthe next two years, Maya could be a triple threat in the 100, 200 and 400.

Here’s a link to the video on Vimeo. Love the…[Read more]

Just an observation, John Blackie currently has the European Senior 200m Champion (Dina Asher-Smith) and the European Junior 200m Champion (Maya Bruney) in his training group.

I am looking forward to see Dina and Maya this year..and why hasn’t Mr Blackie received an OBE as yet B-)

…..Here we go again….I guess we should be grateful for 1 day of positive headlines for our sport…Back to Business As Usual…athletics used by the media as the “whipping boy” for doping whilst “lawyer-upped” team sports like football play on by the rules of Omerta!

    SteveK,
IMHO people really want to believe again in what they are paying good money to see when they go to an athletics meet. They need to know that should they be one of the lucky few to witness the achievement of a world record, that “magical” once in a lifetime experience will be future-proofed against the cheats who have almost killed our sport.

    Larkim,
Doing nothing is unfair, to all past, current and future athletes. In fact it is a cancer killing the credibility of our sport.

Sadly when removing a cancer, one has to be ready to take action which will cause the least harm rather than none at all.

IMHO there is a clear demarcation line which would cause harm to the least number of…[Read more]

A reset of world records, (to help future proof against the real and imagined druggies), will give current and future athletes (i.e. the real stars of the show) a realistic opportunity to earn significant performance related bonuses. State sponsored doping programmes has robbed past, current and future athletes. We should do something to remove…[Read more]

There’s something magical about being “there” when a new record was set, be it a county, championship, national, continental or world record.

Athletics is the elite sport. Pure and simple.

A new category of world record is required to help “shut up” the haters and doubters within and outside our sport who continually whine about doping without…[Read more]

Agreed – in general, the standard for this year was very high, In 2015 and 2016 over 30 athletes were offered a place. This year it’s only 21.

I am hoping the selected few make the best of the opportunity. And stay focused on the long term prize. For those who didn’t make the cut, there’s the option of SportsAid.

At last… congratulations to all athletes offered a place on the Futures programme :yahoo:

Glad to see your hard work being recognised!

There should be a distinction made between world record performances which will be verifiable by the inevitable progress in anti-doping detection technologies and those performances that are not verifiable because samples were intentionally destroyed thereby preventing future testing. Whether we like it or not all performances achieved during the…[Read more]
