The Welsh selection will be confirmed in January – they have a limit of 108 across all individual sports

Just thought I’d start a thread as the England Team should be announced at some point this week.

Link to the selection document below. With a maximum quota of 75 athletes I suspect there will be some talking points.

Agree it’s not a good omen for a Decathlete. If his body can’t cope with the training now one wonders if it ever will

Am with Ursus I’m not convinced that the major champs are where the major issues lie. It’s the one time of year when the media & casual fans take a big interest in the sport. There could be the odd tweak – I think there’s an argument for reinstating the rest day midweek & London had the right idea by reducing the number of morning sessions but no…[Read more]

Niamh neglecting her throwing events certainly isn’t apparent to me. She has a specialist Javelin coach, her throws are on an upward trend & her PBs are better than Jess at the same age. Her throws are certainly at a competent level for her age and she still has another year as a junior.

Ruckstuhl & Shukh are phenomenal Javelin throwers as…[Read more]

Read in the latest issue of AW that Desirée Henry has been managing a knee injury for a while (certainly explains her mediocre form for much of the season). She is going to decide shortly whether to undergo surgery. If she does go under the knife I guess that may put her participation in the Gold Coast in doubt.

I think having a large number of indoor facilities probably helped too. And better transport links.

In addition to redeveloping the Alex the other major development required is the Aquatic centre. Not sure what the plans are for the Village either.

Some athletes are better suited to running indoors & some rarely or never run indoors. Ultimately the Commonwealths are an outdoor championships so we shouldn’t be picking indoor ‘specialists’ otherwise we’ll be picking likes of Kilty based on 60m form which isn’t relevant to running 100m for example.

And given the time of year it’s being held…[Read more]

I like a Team Decathlon idea – that would be a good idea for The Meet & much better than the Nitro novelty events. Easily understood by the public/casual fans too.

Have seen the same about WVN. Presumably South Africa (along with the Aussies & Kiwis) won’t finalise their team selections until a few weeks before the Gold Coast. Not sure how the Jamaican selection works.

I wouldn’t have thought MHS would be suited to running indoors & I feel it would be asking for an injury. He should focus on the Gold…

Stuff that I’ve picked up from where athletes are quoted are. CJ is planning to do World Indoors, Commonwealths & Euros. Have also seen Greg saying he’s targeting the triple. Saw several weeks ago that Morgan Lake said she wanted to do the Hep at Commonwealths but unless she has one lined up imminently she doesn’t have a qualifying Standard so…[Read more]

The public have always been allowed to vote in SPOTY for the main award since it started back in the 50s, it’s what makes it different to other awards which are decided by ‘experts’.

Mo won’t win due to reasons outlined by others above. He might make top 3 this year but can’t see past Anthony Joshua for the main award.

4×1 relay boys for the team award?

He confirmed last week on twitter he is done for the season.

Hope he runs some 200s next year as I still think that will be his better distance.

CJ is the British Number 1 as has been the most consistent all season. Just a shame that his poorest race came in the London semi finals. He really should have made that final.

I would think that the injury Laura suffered in June causing her to miss a few weeks training was a bigger factor on her performance in London than indoor races run 6 Months earlier.

I certainly wouldn’t put her above Cook at this stage. As & when she wins world & Olympic medals we can return to this discussion.

I also think they’re different in that whilst Kathy had a creditable 11.10 time to her credit she was more of a 200/400 sprinter whereas Dina is a 100/200 sprinter.

I welcome the return of international meets.

I’ll reserve judgement on the format until we have more details.

Of course he would have loved to be in the team. But fair play to the selectors for getting it right & not picking him because it was exactly the right call. Always felt throwing in 2 new people was too much of a risk & NMB was the more obvious choice to come in.

Especially pleased for Adam after missing the individual spot & CJ after being…[Read more]
