And free trips to the Bahamas.

I think some athletes need to be reminded that funding is a privilege not a right.

I’m surprised Daley’s odds aren’t shorter. I don’t think he’ll win but he has a big fan base and I wouldn’t be surprised if he finished in the top 3.

Think Joshua has a wide appeal – he’s very popular with those who perhaps have an interest in Boxing but aren’t necessarily big fans. He transcends his sport I guess. Can’t see anyone else winning…[Read more]

Reading selection document there is supposed to be a maximum of 8 for each relay now and that includes the likes of Dina & Adam who are on Podium funding as individuals

Looks like the latest funding announcements are due imminently. According to the documents on the British Athletics website the meetings were held last week and the announcements due this week.

Will give everyone something new to rant about I’m sure.

I am sure everyone is agreed that having more head to head competition and getting people to compete more is right in principle so I totally understand where the IAAF is coming from.

There has been a lot of criticism about this on social media which I find odd when they haven’t confirmed details about how it will work. But I guess some people…[Read more]

“More people might get more opportunities to enjoy sport albeit at the expense of less medals every 4 year cycle” applies across all Olympics/Para sport surely.

It’s important to note that today’s allegations primarily related to 1 group of classifications – Cerebral Palsey & other neurological conditions.

Am sure the classification system…[Read more]

The reality is that he’s been with Salazar for too long and vociferously stood by him throughout the various allegations. The reputational damage has long been inflicted and it’s irreversible.

It’s a valid argument Steve…and one that could equally be made regarding able bodied sport.

Rooney running sub 1:41 – thanks for the good laugh on a Friday Oldboy.

Larkim – Jazmin moved last winter to be coached by Kelly Sotherton but that obviously hasn’t worked out as following her below par summer she has now seemingly moved to Florida to yet another coaching set up.

I actually think that the article Sidelined linked to was a very fair and balanced piece minus some of the OTT online outrage. Yes Mellor…[Read more]

If that’s a response to my Harry AA post talk about selective quoting. Care to address any of the other points I made?

  • replied to the topic ladyloz in the forum Current events 1 month, 2 weeks ago

The quota comes from the Gold Coast organisers & the global Commonwealth Games Federation not Team England. Athletics Canada has a quota of 36 – they selected 50 for Glasgow. Wales has a quota across all individual sports.

Not one to defend Harry AA generally but here goes…

The relays represent very strong medal chances; England won medals in all 4 relays in 2014 so makes sense to take them seriously. By that you really need a squad of 6 (any more is OTT but 6 is fine) which is the 5 selected individual sprinters + Harry. Taking only 5 is a bit risky in case of…[Read more]

But perhaps worth noting Mellor set his PB in a big City Autumn Marathon, Berlin a notoriously quick course. Very different compared to a championship race run in the Australian Summer.

  • replied to the topic ladyloz in the forum Current events 1 month, 2 weeks ago

The quotas are from the organising committee and the Commonwealth games Games Federation not from Team England. Other sports like swimming also have a strict quota & I have seen that Canada’s athletics team also has a quota of around 35.

Guess it’s down to reducing headcount as they’re struggling for viable bids outside of Britain and Australia…[Read more]

Given that a lot of the British Middle Distance & Distance talent is Scottish it’s not really surprising that the team is a bit thin there. Field event medals are easier to come by in the Commonwealths so that makes sense.

No CJ Ujah, Daryl Neita or Reece Prescod in the sprints – presumably a decision guided by Jonas Dodoo. I note they have said…[Read more]

Just thought I’d start a thread as the England Team should be announced at some point this week.

Link to the selection document below. With a maximum quota of 75 athletes I suspect there will be some talking points.
