Do people realise it is April as in The commonwealth games is literally the start of the season.

For majority this was their opener, nearly every athlete including the winners were below par. in terms of their best performances.

The KJT Slander is boring now she won. End of

He’s always been in or around standards but just misses out in finals, a few 4th places here and their at senior trials.

But now his start seems to be a lot better him being on peoples shoulders at 60m rather than behind will be huge for him

Very impressed by Ojie Ebdoburun, but it this way the guy is currently a tenth ahead of where he was this time last year at 60m.

    I’m calling 9.9 outdoors…..

I don’t know really know what to make of the whole indoors, especially as some have chosen the commonwealth games instead.

Dina above KJT in terms of talent?

    LOL

As for the interest in Bolt – you make my point for me. People weren’t tuning in for WR interest, they were tuning in because of interest in the race. “Would Bolt win in his final race” “Would Gatlin win as a drug cheat” etc etc. Not “Will he break the record”.

So you think the same amount of people will turn up now Bolt has gone? Like I sa…[Read more]

    @larkim

And I also don’t thin we can ever realistically expect interest in athletics to extend much beyond the Olympics and the World Champs. And t’was ever thus.

You know this isn’t true and if this is the case tell the IAAF this why are they coming up with all these new proposals.

When watching on TV or reading about it in the press (which is where most non-hardcore fans will learn about the sport) what most fans would want to see is good quality competition. Which is why the m100m final was eagerly anticpated this year in London (no-one in their right minds thought the WR was in any danger).

    People were…[Read more]

Also please lets get out of the athletics community bubble and act like people don’t down play the abilities of current athletes because they are so far behind some world records. We are not talking about generating interest at worlds and olympics these happen by default. We are talking about improving the the profile of our sport from individuals…[Read more]

    @Larkim

You are thinking from your own perspective as a hardcore athletics fan and not someone who just follows the sport. It’s easy to say we should just let standards surpass some records, some are not being touched for another decade or more who is getting close to 47.60 in the womens 400????

First questions general sports fans ask is:
    1.…[Read more]

To those who disagree with this idea what do you think is the actual solution then?

The idea that future records maybe unclean is exactly what is holding athletics back. You keep everything the same people aren’t any better than the ones who are coming with ideas to change the sport.

You’ve got athletes out here doing outstanding performances…[Read more]

“The Governing Body Coaching Award is not fit for purpose. End of. Coaches are not equipped with enough information or supported to develop the abilities they need to achieve what they’ve set out to do: add genuine value to athletes.

Interesting read, very straight forward about the state of coaching in the UK…

    Thoughts?

Also Learmouth has been treated completely unfair and he is right if he was still in Loughborough he would be funded, which is extremely hypocritical when you think a lot of our athletes have gone abroad to seek better options.

  • replied to the topic justrunfast in the forum Current events 5 months, 1 week ago

Some of you are chronic whingers and haven’t read the selection policy. Four relay medals at the world champs relay funding is justified for the first time in years and you still complain.

If you are wondering why there are so many relay funded athletes and not individual…..

There will no longer be individual funding at levels C, D or E for…

I expect even more sprinters than usual to be funded on “relay potential” at the expense of middle distance and long distance runners.

You do realise GB won a gold and sliver at the last world championships right?

  • replied to the topic justrunfast in the forum Current events 5 months, 3 weeks ago

lol oldboy energy systems don’t work on times alone you are assuming improved endurance means improved lactic tolerance……. which isn’t always true even more so in this context we are talking about world class 800m running.

Running faster 200m splits means more lactic at an earlier rate hence why more 400m runners don’t move up to 800…..

    As…[Read more]

Sawyers was coached by Kelly Sotherton but has now moved to Florida to train with a pretty good group out there so we shall see….

Also do people realise that athletes will literally fly out the end of March? I can fully understand why some have turned it down

  • replied to the topic justrunfast in the forum Current events 5 months, 4 weeks ago

10.09 was a chilly day? LOL why lie I was there!

Why are people just assuming it’s easy and normal to be championship ready at the start of April then again for Euros?
