Sidelined raised the idea of coaches visiting other clubs, the National Coach Development Program (and the LCDP below it) was set up so that skilled coaches could make ‘Flying Coach’ visits to clubs to mentor club coaches and take sessions to demonstrate to the coaches. If clubs are not allowing this to happen ‘pox on all their houses’. Each…[Read more]

My understanding (incomplete I might add) is that they do but of course research has recently indicated that the residue effects of doping is a major medium to long term benefit.

This has raised a few eyebrows in other event groups. Some see it as a move to lure from other sporting codes but people point out it still needs the ‘Bank of Mum & Dad’.

Katherina Heinig is the daughter of 1988 East German Olympic Champion Katrin Dorre (who allegedly was got pregnant in the months leading up to the event and then aborted to maximise hormonal advantages).

Remember Mekhissi has assaulted two of the mascots at previous events (one being a 14 year old girl) and was involved in an ugly punch up at another event. Sympathy must be, by necessity, in short supply. He needed his backside kicked and should have happened outright. Confidence is one thing, conceit and contempt another, winners can be grinners…[Read more]

    Alfie:
“Don’t think any other vaulter has won a Commonwealth Gold for England ?”

simple research would have shown you:
    1950 Tim Anderson (ENG) 3.96
    1954 Geoff Elliott (ENG) 4.26
    1958 Geoff Elliott (ENG) 4.16
    1986 Andy Ashurst (ENG) 5.30

Or broadening it out slightly for the UK:
    1970 Mike Bull (NIR) 5.10
    1994 Neil Winter (WAL) 5.40

That is correct…. At the World Cup in China, more commonwealth athletes contested the events than the Marathon, steeple(s) and some of the field and other endurance events. At Taicang, Britain field two senior competitors (1 M, 1F), at any CG in 2014 Wales for example would have had two females in the field, England one or more women etc.…[Read more]

Heats in the wheelchair events including Africans, one of who failed to make the finals due to a crash. If I cannot understand anything I find factual information (and I do not mean the ‘anyone can write it’ Wikipedia), be it in my professional life or in intellectual pursuits. A Nigerian won a throws medal. If you do not start somewhere you never…[Read more]

“…Is that fair, is that what we as fans want? Who cares, we weren’t consulted….” Oh I am sorry I was under the misapprehension that the medal table was under the aegis of the others? I never knew it was the armchair critics controlled who controlled the circus…. Those who can do, those who can’t etc or is it to do with achievement? As to c…[Read more]

Could it be the absence of two events (one for each gender) cost Australia potentially 5 medals? As written elsewhere, the Commonwealth nations are on the rise across a range of disciplines (who would have guessed 1 and 2 in the Javelin in 2014 on 2010 performances?) thanks to scholarships etc in the US or increased opportunities on the world…[Read more]

The Heptathlon will appear tomorrow I suspect, like all international events start lists tend to appear 24 hour or so before:

Sportsmanager, an illogical statement re Head Coach, so every manager or coach has 24/7 control of EVERY welsh athlete? If it were a metabolisation arising from a supplement, how does the NGB control that? there was a massive amount of Hubris heaped upon a poster here for pointing to the Australia Athletics policy on supplements (no usage…[Read more]

I agree it was not just the LJ that did it but the scene of going down in the pit is rather gut wrenching.

    The whole documentary is sobering

For which championships? World, Olympic, Commonwealth? In fairness you should include ALL those who have taken a suspension, irrespective of what it involves (missed tests) or accepted public warnings.

I put it to the ‘armchair’ experts that inhabit the forum that most sports fans could tell you who Hannah Cockroft or David Weir were, they could name very few abled bodied athletes were….
Why do you feel so threatened by disability athletics?

Why can you just not enjoy the contest of say a Peacock/Browne tussle? Why not marvel at those who…[Read more]
