    Phillips,

First off just shouting you are wrong is the debating level of a toddler. If you can’t actually debate the points then at least admit defeat.

Secondly please learn to read. I said in development terms I consider the 90s to be lost. People join the sport from a young age. They then take time to develope and may reach top level in…[Read more]

I’d also add that in terms of development I have always considered the 90s to have been lost years. I always felt that in the post professionalistion years the very top were looked after once they got there but that there was very little to help those on the way up. Things like Sportshall, emphasis on multi-discipline for youngsters and creating…[Read more]

    Ursus,

You raise some interesting topics in your posts.

On the BAL and club strength I seriously doubt it will ever be up to previous strength. No amount of tinkering with competition structure is going to counteract the negative domestic factors and until the sport is as rich as professional team sports then it isn’t likely to change much in…[Read more]

As demonstrated above the American collegiate systems spends well in excess of 40 times as much. In reality with staff, facilities and other divisions it’s likely to be 60-70 times as much.

As I have stated many times before, I do not think the levels of funding can possibly overturn the damage of the changes in UK society. As a result the…[Read more]

Just to give you an indication of the margins we are talking about here, if we simply re-ban South Africa because of apartied and put the Eritrean was of independence and associated Ethiopian famine back into play then it’s reasonable to suggest Callum Hawkins medals in the marathon, Laura Muir in both 1500 and 5k and Nathanael Mitchell-Blake in…[Read more]

    Oh dear,

You think that the USA maintains its position because they don’t tolerate losers. Honestly, that’s your theory. Do you not think it might possibly have something more to do with the $265 million per annum spent purely on NCAA Div 1 scholarships for track and XC. That’s just onscolarships, that doesn’t include facilities, coaching,…[Read more]

I thought since days had passed without a reponse, as is usual when some posters are faced with facts, I would add some further comment.

Phillipo states that we won more medals before lottery funding. He seems to suggest that system is part of the reason for the medal count not being higher. We could look at the stats for performance just…[Read more]

I haven’t posted in ages but this thread was something I couldn’t leave alone.

Anybody who thinks comparing simple medal count directly over periods of decades without context is a way to measure how the sport is dong in the UK is an idiot. It is beyond stupid in its’ oversimplification.

The UK can have an element of control over things in…[Read more]

Are you saying that without the figures you wouldn’t know that a longer standing jump is better than a short one?

  • replied to the topic biggut in the forum Current events 9 months, 1 week ago

And how exactly does knowing how far people jump on standing long jump going to mean you can coach somebody to do it anymore than you could before. I can look up the half marathon times of top marathon runners, that does not tell you a thing about how to get somebody to be at their level.

It’s a outcome measure, it tells you nothing about the…[Read more]

JRF, why would I know? I’d have thought before criticising the decision you’d have found that out, clearly not. I also had to put capitals to make sure you saw it as it’s been said already but you continue to say they were made redundant.

Geoff, what is your solution to the costs issue you faced. There are 21 disciplines, 2 genders, 4 age groups…[Read more]

THEY HAVE NOT BEEN MADE REDUNDANT. Their fixed term contracts came to an end, it’s a very important distinction.

    JRF,

I have no issue with professional coaches. I just want to know how and who you intend to pay them and whether you intend to make athletes train with them. What’s your model? I am yet to see anybody come up with a model that looks remotely workable that an NGB could implement.

Javelin standards are currently appalling. But there is not a different process for development of javelin coaches to, say hammer coaches. Yet we are doing tremendously in Hammer throwing.

Typical non argument, make it about the person not the point made. For the record, no I don’t and neither does any close family or friend that o am aware of.

Now back to my point, what would you do? No spending loads of non existent cash, just how would you increase coverage and get structure to coaching with people complying to that structure…[Read more]

Can’t win though can they, one minute courses are too onerous and expensive the next they are too short.

This is all just like Brexit. People saying we need a professional pathway, we need to spend money on other things. OK, how? It’s all well and good moaning and saying things should be different but how do you achieve this professional coaching structure with no real budget? How do you have a pathway when people are free to coach who they please…[Read more]
