5 auto qualifiers in the womens 5000m from 2 finals. Think 2/3 GB girls will get through on times.

3 of the 1st 4 days have had a WR. Day 4? – we think not, though thinking of M TJ last year Taylor was hot, 8cm-hot off from the WR – and where has his young CUB rival Pedro P Pichardo, an 18.08 man gone?

Pichardo couldn’t get over his ankle injury in time. With Tamgho also injured, Taylor must be nailed on for TJ gold. (With apologies to Will Claye.)

Looks like Ingebrigtsen junior barged Charlie Grice out of the way in the 1500m heat. Definite potential for a protest if not a DQ.

For once I agree with Brendan Foster about Grice’s incident. Ingebrigtsen was at fault and should be DQed, but Grice was already done for before the barging happened, so he can’t expect a sympathy place in the semis.

Somewhere, Jonathan Edwards breathes a sigh of relief.

Not quite that nailed on for gold as Will Claye ran him pretty close throughout, and this time, Taylor didn’t get really that close to challenging JE’s world record either, but he does win gold again.

If Taylor had a fully fit Tamgho and Pichardo in the competition with him, then perhaps Edwards would be a bit more worried. :)

Ingebrigtsen has been disqualified and Grice put through.

He’s a very, very lucky boy – there’s no way he was going to finish in that top 6, the way he was fading.

Very lucky. I agree with you (and Brendan) – Ingebritsen should have been DQd but Grice being advanced is questionable.

Indeed Grice was lucky. Certainly not going to be top 6 …but I suppose he might have been able to qualify as a fastest loser , without the interference ?
They seem to be quite generous in reinstating obstructed runners.

Murer NM’s in the pole vault. So Brazil’s longshot wins the men’s event and their best chance on paper doesn’t even make the women’s final.

No – it was a very slow heat, so no fastest losers from it.

    OK . I hadn’t done the sums .

    Even luckier then ;-)

Excellent run from Talbot. Loving his strength in the final 50 metres this season.

Looks like a new pb for Talbot in that first 200m heat.

Also Holly Bradshaw into the final of the women’s pole vault. Good stuff Holly. :)

Hortelano with another Spanish national record! He’s having some season! :)

Hah . Perkovic – “in a single bound she was free”

Not only gets on the board but throws 69 something which will probably win the contest ….

    Just messing with them :bye:

    Excellent from Talbot and Bradshaw.

Really impressed with Holly Bradshaw interview. Showing real maturity and being comfortable on world stage.

Good 200m heats for our guys

Putting aside the whole ‘team’ argument (which I know is an important one) it’s looking like our 4×1 should be:
    Ujah-Gemili-Talbot-NMB

    W DT Perkovic:
    X, X, 64.81 (3rd qualifier)
    X, X, 69.21, X, X, X (gold)

Has any field athlete done less to win gold? Not much of ‘successful’ throwing for the spectators to see.

But yes in the M LJ ’68 just 1 great jump by Beamon in the final (followed by an 8.04). I don’t know how he fared in the qualifying rounds.
