I think realistically most people would prioritise worlds over Diamond League so understandable to have just 1 day this year.

Not sure what size crowd there will be tomorrow but when they held the DL in Glasgow it was only about a third full and then the Commonwealth Games a few weeks later was packed.

I’m sure it will be back up to 2 days next year

Why did UKA give up their biggest money earner?

    A 2-day Diamond League meet

Which numpty signed off on that??

Rather than the late July Friday/Saturdays of previous years there presumably wasn’t time to fit a two day Anniversary Games in with Lausanne being on Thursday etc. That looks more like an IAAF decision to me. Consequent upon the World Championships and the stadium only being available for a few weeks due to football. But you blame a numpty if you like.
Personally I always blame UKA for bad weather and traffic jams.

    Laps

They could have made it Saturday/Sunday

The events in Lausanne would be held on Sunday allowing for travel or different athletes!

From the ticket website it looks like they have sold the lower and middle tiers plus the front half the upper tier. Which would be 40,000-45,000 total. The top 11 rows (9,000) are not allowed to be used by West Ham United because of licensing restrictions and I think that applies to the Anniversary Games. The stadium seats 66,000 maximum these days in football mode.

It is great to know that you are fully conversant with all the challenges of scheduling and holding Diamond League meetings and have Lausanne at your beck and call. Stunning!

As a spectator at every Anniversary Games up to now, I’ve felt the two day format felt a bit thin.

There are some mouth-watering clashes to look forward to. From a purely British perspective….

Sharp v Oskan-Clarke should be a titanic struggle, and I expect Shelayna to come out on top with a sub 1-59 run.

It will be very interesting to see if Dina can lift her performance today, and also see how the M400 pecking order works out. A crucial race for the relay squad.

Of course it will be great to see KJT, Mo and Laura Muir but there are a number of selection decisions that will be resolved today……

Incidentally can anyone throw any light on why Andy Pozzi is not in the line-up? The field is a strong one and it would have been nice for the fans to see him in it.

Would only assume after his PB in Paris he’s tired

I would hope he is a bit more resilient than that! The Paris run was nearly a week ago, so I suspect you are tongue-in-cheek.
I hope he is not protecting any fresh ‘niggles’.

I saw somewhere that he has a niggle but it isn’t serious.

That’s the way I see it. Wightman is avoiding the 1500m because he has nothing to gain and his place to lose.

I see that Sarah McDonald is doing the same – not risking it in the Mile against Snowden & Courtney but running in Gothenburg mid-week instead.

Full moan mode switched on and ready to go…

Frankly tired of saying this but Colin Jackson is not up to scratch as a commentator… god bless the BBC for diversity but surely they can find someone else to meet their ‘agenda’ … which amazes me they stick with Phil Jones, which adds nothing…

Eilidh Doyle… I think needs to ease back from racing now and get fresh for the Worlds…

Surprised to see so many empty seats…

People saving their money for the WCs? Obviously just as well they didn’t try the two day meeting this year.

I don’t think Dina’s done enough to get picked for London, although Ashleigh Nelson did her a favour.

    :good:

Daryll Neita PB … and it looked very relaxed …

I believe some were saying the reason for the poor turnout at the trials was because people were saving their athletic dollar for this week… maybe people are just waiting to watch Pozzi, and if he doesnt compete people dont go hahahaha

Come on – it’s a different world. Bricks and mortar isn’t what it used to be. Look at this forum – a bunch of folks who would never have been able to have this type of ‘real time’ discussion about a live event. But, we’re British and we love to have the – quote: “full moan mode switched on and ready to go…” Yes, Daryll Neita, very impressive – time and performance. Steve will be happy and maybe have some renewed faith ;-)

Note to AW – ever wondered why only about 15 people ever get involved on this forum?

i enjoy the other jeremys constant moaning, i like to imagine that you and him are the same person with multiple personalities :mail: annoyed hes changed his name and ruined that. its also fairly annoying that more people have joined in with his unrealistic expectations this year

I am not getting excited about Neita as there is a very realistic chance that she will join the long list of our rather mediocre women who specialise in disappointments later on; surprised how indifferent some the wonder Americans are but we know they came for a quick shufti at the place where the WC will be held

Great race by O’Hare. I don’t think Grice will be going to London ahead of Wightman.
