We are surely getting close to the time when we’ll see someone born in the 21st century leading the world in athletics.

Who do we think this might be? What disciplines will be taken down first – and which will remain steadfastly stuck in the last century for longest?

Cant envisage any marks being taken down by 17/18 y-o’s in the near future.

Bolt and Flo-Jo are likely to cling on to their records the longest.

It’s quite possible there may be a teenage Ethiopian distance winner in Doha 2019? How about Selemon Barega in the 5000? A PB of 12:55 and just sneaking in with a 20 Jan 2000 birth date (if we put any trust in Ethiopian birth dates).

Mondo Duplantis was suggested as a potential gold medalist to take the first 21st century gold – but he’s a November 99 birth.

See a 21st century kid took gold today in the winter Olympics.
