Great Britain will have three athletes contesting the women’s long jump in Portland, with British indoor champion Sawyers having received an IAAF invite to compete

Jazmin Sawyers has been added to the Great Britain team for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, with British Athletics announcing that the national governing body has accepted an IAAF invite for the long jumper to compete.

The Commonwealth silver medallist leapt an indoor PB of 6.67m to claim her first senior British title in Sheffield at the end of last month but missed automatic selection for Portland as she was just eight centimetres off the qualification standard.

With her IAAF invite, the 21-year-old joins British record-holder Shara Proctor and Lorraine Ugen, who secured her Portland place thanks to her overall IAAF World Indoor Tour series victory, on the GB team.

"I am delighted to have been invited to compete in Portland," said Sawyers.

"I'm looking forward to putting on the British vest once again and am focused on producing the best possible performance I can, starting what I hope will be a big year for me."
