Four-time Olympian Jo Pavey has given birth to her second child, Emily
British distance runner Jo Pavey gave birth to her second child this week.
Emily Pavey was born in Exeter on Wednesday morning and joins her brother, Jacob, who was born in September 2009.
Proud dad Gavin told AW that Emily weighed 6lb 4oz at birth and “Jo and Emily are both fine and very happy”.
One of the sport’s most consistent championship performers, the mum-of-two hopes to finish her career in the marathon at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
A four-time Olympian, Pavey was 12th in the 5000m at the Sydney Olympics, improved to fifth at 5000m in Athens in 2004, then 12th in the 10,000m at the Beijing Games before superb seventh place finishes in the 5000m and 10,000m at London 2012 – the latter performances making her the leading non-African in both races.
The 39-year-old almost qualified for the marathon in the London Olympics, though, and has a best of 2:28:24.
Age is not on her side, but the West Country athlete believes it is possible given the fact she ran a 10,000m PB last year.
In addition, she plans to return for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
