    Wow! With the world record-holder Javier Sotomayor literally standing behind him watching, Ukhov very nearly breaks the Cuban's indoor world record. His shoulders and hips clear the bar at 8 feet, but the backs of his thighs scrape the fiberglass bar on the way down, barely bouncing it off the standards. Ukhov would go on to repeat this incredible performance twice more indoors, clearing 2.38 meters on his first attempts, then missing at 2.44, on 9 February and again on 5 March at the European Indoor Championships.
