Round-up of British Masters Athletic Federation action at Derby
North Shields Poly, Winchester and Bournville were among the winners at the BMAF Cross Country Relay Championships at Derby on Saturday afternoon.
In the women’s race there was an exciting three-way battle between North East club NSP, Dulwich Runners and Staffs Moorlands who all led at various stages on the last leg. However, it was NSP who proved the strongest finishers.
Dulwich’s Clare Ems, who moved from ninth to first on the second leg with 11:23, and moved down from the W45s to W35s, was easily the fastest individual.
Bristol and West won the W45s but it was Long Eaton’s former Masters International winner Sharon Orridge who was fastest with 12:32 on the opening leg.
A poorly supported W55s was won by Winchester with their England international from last week, Lynne Whitaker, fastest with 13:07.
The M65s were won by a top quality Oxford team but it was Bob Tintinger of Rotherham Harriers who was fastest with a time of 12:26.
The men’s race saw the M35, M45s and M55s combined, with fastest laps going to Mansfield’s Mark Johnson (10:01), Austin Davies of Brecon (9:58) and Redhill’s Andy Wetherill (11:12) respectively.
Bournville won the M35s just ahead of Leicester who won the W45s. The M55s was a close affair and Oxford City fought off the challenge of Dulwich Runners.
