Dai Greene’s club named as April winner in latest round of awards
Swansea Harriers has been voted as the April winner of the new Ronhill/AW club of the month awards, with Matt Shields earning the accolade of Ronhill ambassador of the month.
The award is very fitting for Swansea at a time when one of their star athletes, Dai Greene, is about to go for gold at the London Olympics. The South Wales club is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Having been voted UKA club of the year in 2009, the club has gone from strength to strength, with the women winning medals in the national six-stage road relays in each of the past three years. Having fielded men’s and women’s teams in the British League for many years, in 2012 the women will also step up to the top flight of the UK Women’s League for the first time.
Shields, meanwhile, a club administrator in Northern Ireland, was third in the inaugural Belfast City Marathon.
Winning clubs receive £150 of Ronhill kit and a trophy, while the chosen ambassador gets £100 of kit and a trophy.
This follows the winners from last month – Weston AC and Andy Carter and Shaun McGrath – all of whom are entered into a competition at the end of the year for the 2012 annual awards.
The awards reinforce our joint commitment to grassroots club athletics. To enter go here.
