Impressive performances at well-attended championships in Falkirk
Rhona Auckland and Callum Hawkins won senior titles at the Scottish Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park in Falkirk on Saturday.
Edinburgh University student Auckland (pictured) beat Susan Partridge by seven seconds with Beth Potter, the 2013 champion, third, Rosie Smith fourth and six-time champion Freya Ross in fifth.
For Hawkins it was his first senior men’s gold at this event, making it a dozen gold medals across the age groups for his family courtesy of the past exploits of brothers Derek and Scott, plus dad Robert. He won by 55 seconds from Andrew Butchart.
Jake Wightman, the European junior 1500m champion, won the under-20 women’s title with Rachael Dunn taking the under-20 women’s crown.
The number of finishers – 1520 – was the biggest since the championships began to feature men, women and age groups in 1994.
