Athlete New Year’s resolutions

We take a look ahead to 2014 as some of Britain’s track and field stars share their New Year’s resolutions

2014

The year 2013 is not quite over yet, but Britain’s athletes are already looking ahead to 2014.

So just what are their resolutions for the coming year? With talk of biscuits, stretching and photography (but perhaps not all at the same time), we took to Twitter to find out…

» Adam Gemili @Adam_Gemili

“My New Year’s resolution is just to try and maintain a good healthy diet! (Nando’s is healthy!)”

» Katarina Johnson-Thompson @JohnsonThompson

“I don’t normally do New Year’s resolutions but I would say I need to stretch more.”

» Richard Whitehead @Marathonchamp

“My resolutions this year athletically are to continue to spread the “power of sport” through my athletics! Off the track it is to learn a new skill – maybe to learn to play a musical instrument or maybe speak Italian or Spanish.”

» Perri Shakes-Drayton @shakesdrayton

“My New Year’s resolution is to be on time for everything. My punctuality is terrible. I blame my wardrobe – I have too much of an outfit choice!”

» Jake Wightman @JakeSWightman

“Mine would be to do less custard creams and more yoga!”

» Susan Partridge @PartridgeSusan

“I learnt a long time ago that will power is not my strong point… so I don’t make any resolutions!”

» Andy Vernon @AndyVernonGB

“I’ve had the same New Year’s resolution for the past three years. It’s to keep in contact better with friends I can’t or don’t see often, though it hasn’t been too successful yet!

» Stef Reid @RunJumpStefReid

“My resolution is to stop being a geographical friend, which basically means I need to do a much better job of keeping in touch with all of my friends and family all over the world. It can be overwhelming when you have lived in as many places as I have but that is no excuse!”

» Seb Rodger @SebRodger

“To run under 49 seconds in the hurdles and to compete in the Commonwealth Games!”

» Shara Proctor @SharaProctor

“I have two resolutions. One is to jump 7m and the next is to get down to 7.3 in the 60m. Those are my track resolutions. Another that’s not track related is to learn how to hold a note, learn to sing a little bit.”

» Dan Greaves @DiscusDan

“My resolution is to win both majors and to PB. Personally I’m going to be leaner and help promote elite para sport more.”

» Holly Bleasdale @HollyBleasdale

“I’d like to try to learn something new away from athletics, maybe another language or take cooking classes.”

» Chris O’Hare @chrisohare1500

“My New Year’s resolution is to make sure I enjoy the little things in life that I have been so fortunate to be blessed with.”

» Dina Asher-Smith @dinaashersmith

“Mine’s pretty boring. It’s to take more photos!”
